The Playbook

Drink: The Eastern
1511 E 6th St; Central East; 512.902.7351
Formerly Bully's, aka That Bar Right Next to Cisco's, The Eastern is a prime East 6th day-drinkery (opens at noon!) whose cozy cavern-like interior has remained unchanged down to the Tejano jukebox, but whose exterior's been expanded into a fenced-off patio with a stage, outdoor bar, and covered lounge with purple walls and modish white furniture on which to sip specialty cocktails like the "Kentucky Lemonade" with Rebel Yell bourbon, sure to dry your tears of pain, babe.
Monday Flip Nights could earn you a 25 cent domestic if you win a coin toss. Keep up to date with their other specials at their Facebook page.

Appear Well Read: George Saunders Reading
Thurs Apr 14th, 3:30pm at The Wittliff Collections; San Marcos; 512.245.2313 and Fri Apr 15th, 7:30pm at Katherine Anne Porter Literary Center: 508 Center St; Kyle; 512.268.6637
Next week, Texas State's creative writing department hosts a reading from the absurdist author whose work ranges from daringly bizarre personal journalism (The Braindead Megaphone chronicles both his quest for Nepal's "Buddha Boy" and his attempt to hang with Minutemen along the border) to his bread-and-butter short fiction, notably the tale of a Civil War reenactment amusement park gone haywire called "Civilwarland in Bad Decline" (Confederacy of Dunces was already taken).
Saunders has won just about every literary award there is, including a genius grant! Check out his methods of mayhem at SaundersSaundersSaunders.com.

Waste Your Time: Pica Pic
A tribute to the apparently global world of portable '80s gaming, this Flash site boasts over 15 flawless emulations of simple but totally addictive lo-fi button mashers ranging from awkward Russian translations like Merry Cook (1989) and Space Bridge (1988), to pop culture tie-ins like Terminator (1988) and Bartman (1990), to Nintendo Game & Watch prototypes like 1982's Mickey and Donald and 1982's Donkey Kong Jr., an 8-bit talent who, years before an equally famous 2-bit talent, changed his name to Diddy.

Swim: Onia
So hot they just arrived in By George, Service, and Bows+Arrows, Onia comes from a guy who earned his stripes under Steven Alan before creating this line of solid-colored swimwear that doesn't look silly out of water, including both trunks and board shorts with features like zip pockets, extra durable lining, and metal-tipped drawcords, ideal for tying a Slipknot.
