Fox Rejects John 3:16 Super Bowl Ad, But GoDaddy Ads Are Just Fine

Posted: 04 Feb 2011 09:57 PM PST

Since the 1970s it has been a common site to see a fan sitting directly behind the goal posts holding up a John 3:16 sign during field goal attempts. I remember as a kid seeing a man with a rainbow colored wig holding up one of these signs.

Time Tebow John 3:16

Tim Tebow, the former University of Florida Heisman Trophy winning quarterback and current Denver Broncos quarterback, routinely had a bible verse written on his eye black patches. Often times this Bible verse was John 3:16.

So obviously  a Super Bowl commercial that briefly mentions John 3:16 wouldn’t receive a second thought when being reviewed by Fox for inappropriate content. In a common sense world that would be true, but this week Fox threw common sense out the window and decided that an extremely benign John 3:16 ad created for The Fixed Point Foundation was just to controversial and offensive for the Super Bowl.

Excuse me?! Did someone on the review board fall asleep when the GoDaddy.com commercials were previewed?

When I first heard about the John 3:16 ad being rejected I was mad. When I actually saw the ad, I was outraged.

Watch the ad below and let me know what you think.

Internet Hoaxes and Christians

Posted: 29 Oct 2010 01:36 AM PDT

The Internet is a great resource for Christians. Through the Internet, the Gospel can reach places and people that otherwise would never have had the opportunity, or desire, to hear God’s Word. The Internet can also destroy the testimony of all Christians in the eyes of non-believers when used recklessly.

As email became a common form of communication for the world, email hoaxes became more and more prevalent. Some are rather harmless, but others are misleading, deceptive and even dangerous.

While most of these Internet hoaxes are not related to Christians or Christianity, a small number attempt to make false claims in order to promote the cause of Christ. These emails are naively forwarded by thousands of Christians every day to everyone on their email lists. These Internet hoaxes make grandiose claims that attempt to validate Christian beliefs or further the cause of Christianity.

Think about all of the ramifications of these emails! Does God want His cause promoted through deception? Obviously not. This goes against the very principles of Scripture.

internet_hoaxes_charles_darwin

One such Internet hoax gives a detailed account of how Charles Darwin accepted Christ and denounced evolution on his death bed. This story is completely fabricated.  By spending five minutes doing a little research you could find the truth behind Internet hoaxes such as this.  On the other hand, by blindly forwarding such an email, you risk losing your credibility and damaging your testimony with every person that reads your email.

But it goes even further than your own credibility and testimony.  You open all Christians up to ridicule and further close the minds of those that haven’t accepted Christ.  In their eyes, Christians are small minded people who blindly follow a false God.

Do YOU want to reinforce that view of Christians… and our Savior?  Verify the validity of any email before sending it to your friends. Most Internet hoaxes can be found at Snopes.com.

Top 5 Online Bible Study Tools

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 08:24 PM PDT

Online Bible study tools have come a LONG way since the early days of the Internet. Today’s Bible study tools are intuitive and user friendly and offer a complete library of resources that would cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. The Bible study websites below offer these  tools and resources for free.

While putting this list together I looked at a lot of websites offering Bible study tools. While these five websites were the best I came across, I’m sure I may have missed a few. Feel free to suggest other Bible study resources using the comment form below.  Come back in a couple of weeks to take part in the voting. The site with the most votes will be named to the “Best of the Christian Web” for Online Bible Study Tools.

Bible.com Bible Study Tools Bible Resources offers Bible translations in any language imaginable and a daily Bible reading plan using the King James, NIV or Amplified version. Unfortunately, the reading plan does not allow you to start from Genesis on the current date. You have to go back to January 1. You will also find information on how to study the Bible and help with scripture memorization, as well as an audio Bible, Bible dictionaries and articles.

Blueletter Bible Study The Blue Letter Bible offers over twenty Bible commentaries, including the notes of Sir Isaac Newton, charts and outlines, Biblical timelines, devotionals, audio and video sermons from thirty-two speakers, Bible images, maps, Bible reading plans and multiple Bible versions.

The website is simple in appearance but easy to use and loaded with information.

Biblos Bible Study Online Biblos.com, my personal favorite, has it all. The site has the look and feel of a standalone Bible software program. The toolbar at the top of the site gives you immediate access to a huge library, searchable atlas, concordance, Bible encyclopedia, Bible weights and measures, Bible summary, commentaries and much more.

You can read nearly any version of the Bible and quickly jump to cross references, Hebrew and Greek words with definitions, lexicons and chain links. Biblos.com has it all.

eBible Bible Study eBible.com has the best interface of any of the Bible study websites. It’s clean, makes excellent use of the screen and very easy to use. You can create your own parallel Bible from five of the most popular translations and even add parallel commentaries. Very impressive!!

It’s a great Bible resource now but has the potential to be the best with the addition of more Bible study and research tools.

Crosswalk Bible Study Tools Bible Study Tools by Crosswalk includes over 40 Bible translations and allows you to create a custom reading plan starting from any day of the year. You can read online, have your daily reading emailed to you, or print your daily reading to take with you.

The only Bible reading is integrated with numerous commentaries, condordances, dictionaries, lexicons, encyclophedias and sermon helps to provide an excellent online Bible study resource.

Logos Bible Software

Anyone who has ever taken the time to talk with and really get to know their pastor, has probably discovered that one of his greatest challenges is busyness and time management. During any normal week in the life of a pastor, there are things like committee meetings, hospital visits, counseling appointments, following up on church visitors, administrative duties, returning phone calls, planning for future ministries – some weeks the list can go on and on. All of that, is without even considering the time that a pastor spends each week preparing anywhere between one, and three sermons or Bible studies.

To sum all that up, most pastors face at least 2 common obstacles. Obviously, considering all the previously mentioned demands, time is always an issue. The next most obvious obstacle is money (most of us did not get into this with any illusion of becoming wealthy). If you've ever seen the libraries that most pastors have accumulated over time, you'll recognize that they have invested quite a hefty sum of money in their books. I'd like to recommend to you a solution to both of these challenges – Logos Bible Software 3 on CD-ROM or DVD-ROM.

I am not the "computer dummy" I was a few years ago, but I am still no "techno geek" either. No problem for me, with Logos Bible Software 3. I have found it surprisingly easy to use. All you have to know how to do is type in a Bible reference, or a topic and click the “Go” button! Logos Bible Software 3 gives you an amazing wealth of resources at your fingertips, giving you everything you need for in depth and comprehensive Bible Study. The Logos Scholar's Library edition, has resources equivalent to a printed library worth over $6,000. It is a value-priced collection of texts and tools for serious Bible study using Greek, Hebrew, and English resources with more than 330 Bibles and Bible Reference titles. The Scholar’s Library software does not only save time and money when compared to the process of studying with printed books, but it actually acts as your personal research assistant, doing everything from looking up relevant articles and automatically collecting material to generating tailored collections of content organized around the specific Bible passage you are working with.

There is a resource at your fingertips for anything imaginable – Greek & Hebrew helps for exegesis work, sermon resources (such as illustrations, quotations, and commentaries), historical & cultural background study, entire books on theology and apologetics, other books on pastoral care, leadership , and church administration, and a variety of ministry resources for things like small groups, discipleship, and even evangelism training. The Scholar's Library actually offers more than most pastors would ever need. It includes tools that would meet the needs of any Bible Scholar on an academic level, with more than a dozen Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, and Latin texts with morphologies and a variety of other original language tools.

The Logos Bible Software series offers a variety of sets on CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. The different sets are suited to all kinds of users – from the family who wants to provide quality Bible study for their children, to the Sunday School Bible teacher, to church staff persons and others in church leadership. The more advanced sets are perfect for Pastors, Conference Speakers, and Seminary Professors and Bible Research Scholars. The sets range in price and volume of content with the Christian Home Library, starting at around $150, to the Scholars Library Gold which sells for around $1,380. In between these two are the Bible Study Library, Leaders Library, and the Original Language Library, . The one that is right for your particular use depends on the depth of study desired and the amount of resources your particular ministry requires.

An Unforgettable Christmas Gift

Posted: 02 Dec 2009 08:26 PM PST

Having a hard time deciding what to get someone that’s hard to buy for? Give a gift they will never forget. Give them a 2,000 year old piece of history from the Holy Land.  Each oil lamp is unique and was hand made approximately two thousand years ago.

To actually hold a piece of history in your hand brings history to life, especially when it’s a 2,000 year old Bible era artifact.

Holy Land Oil Land Lamp

Only $89 (free shipping)

When you hold a 2,000 year old artifact in your hand you somehow feel connected to the people throughout time that have held that same object. You wonder if someone famous, such as Julius Caesar, Paul or maybe even Jesus Himself could have held the same object you are holding in your hand. Yeah, it’s unlikely, but the thought still crosses your mind.

Recently I purchased a small lot of Holy Land oil lamps. These lamps were discovered in Israel and date from 200 B.C. to 100 A.D. These small lamps would held enough oil to provide a home with light for one to two hours. Each lamp is unique in shape, size and decorative design.

Authentic Holy Land lamps retail for $100 to $500. I was able to purchase 25 of these oil lamps at a wholesale rate and I want to offer them to my website users at a wholesale rate.

While supplies last, and they won’t last long, you can purchase a 2,000 year old oil lamp from the Holy Land for only $89. This price includes shipping!

These are great for Pastors and Sunday School teachers. Kids are amazed when they get to hold an object that was being used during Jesus lifetime. They also make unique gifts.
