Update: DeVos confirmed in a tie-brea

We did everything we could to stop this from happening. Hundreds of thousands of Americans called their Senators urging them not to confirm Betsy DeVos’ nomination for Secretary of Education. Tammy along with Democratic colleagues in the Senate held the Senate floor for 24 hours straight last night to express objections to DeVos’s confirmation. But at the end of the day, we couldn’t get enough Republicans to oppose her. Today, the Vice President broke the 50-50 tie to confirm Betsy DeVos for Secretary of Education. We can’t give up when it comes to protecting public schools in Wisconsin and around the country. The uphill battle to protect public education has just begun, and Tammy is ready for the fight. Betsy DeVos is simply not qualified to be Secretary of Education. DeVos is a billionaire with little experience in public education. She didn’t attend public schools; her children did not attend public schools; and she’s never worked in one. But despite DeVos’ confirmation, we still have a lot of lawmakers and a lot of passionate Americans who will stand up for public education. We can count on Tammy to speak out and make sure every child in our country has the opportunity to reach their full potential. This was a bump in the road, but we can’t let it stall us.
