WINDOWS 7 USERS SHOW HIGH SATISFACTION
Forrester Research reports that Microsoft Windows 7 scored high satisfaction numbers in a recent survey. Some 86 percent of surveyed Windows 7 users said they were satisfied with the OS, a response that is tied closely to Windows 7's ability to run well on netbooks and older computers, says Forrester.

BLUETOOTH 4.0 LEADS GARTNER'S TOP 10 MOBILE TECH LIST
Gartner has issued a report on the top 10 mobile technologies through 2011, picking the upcoming Bluetooth 4.0, which offers a low-energy mode targeting sensor communications, as having the largest impact. Other emerging mobile trends include the growing use of 4G networks, GPS, touchscreens, M2M communications, and mobile browsers, says Gartner.

ZIFF DAVIS ENTERPRISE LAUNCHES PRODUCT REVIEW SITE
Ziff Davis Enterprise, the publisher of LinuxDevices and eWEEK, among others, has launched a new eWEEK Labs website to serve as an independent showcase of reviews and technical analyses of the latest computer, Internet, and wireless technologies. The review-focused site will also provide online community features, including reader reviews.

ITALIAN TABLET PC RUNS WINDOWS
Italy-based Ekoore has announced a tablet PC that runs Windows XP Home or Windows 7 on an Intel Atom N270. The Ekoore ET10TA10 offers a 10.2-inch, 1024 x 600 backlit touchscreen, as well as 1GB of RAM, flash expansion, a 160GB hard disk drive (HDD), and WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, and USB connections, says Ekoore.

EMBEDDED OS SALES UP, BSQUARE RESULTS SUGGEST
Reporting its fourth-quarter 2009 financial results, Windows Embedded software specialist Bsquare said its its sales of Microsoft's embedded operating systems and other third-party software continued to increase during the period. However, the company adds, it was pushed into a net loss for the quarter (and year) by cost-overruns on its work with the Ford Motor Company.

RUGGED HANDHELD SPORTS SCANNERS GALORE
Datalogic Mobile announced a Windows Mobile 6.5-based PDA (personal digital assistant) that includes a 1D/2D barcode reader, an RFID reader, GPS, and an HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access) radio. The "Elf" has a VGA-resolution touchscreen display, WiFi, Bluetooth, a three megapixel camera, and a choice of keyboards, the company says.

BIG RIGS HAVE WINDOWS ON BOARD
In some circles, "Kenworth vs. Peterbilt" is a more important rivalry than "Ford vs. Chevy." But the famous big rig manufacturers are united in choosing Windows for their vehicles' in-dash computers, as Peterbilt's announcement of its new "SmartNav" system underlined yesterday.

ALL-IN-ONE THIN CLIENT HAS 21-INCH SCREEN
Igel announced a new all-in-one thin client that runs either Windows Embedded Standard or Linux. The UD9 includes a 21.5-inch display, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, plus an optional touchscreen, wireless networking, and smart card reader, the company says.

LENOVO SPINS WIMAX-ENABLED THINKPADS
Sprint announced that 3G cellular models supporting its network will be available across Lenovo's ThinkPad product line, with some models supporting 4G (WiMAX) as well. The notebooks will come with SIM cards already installed, and will be able to switch from 3G to 4G via Lenovo's Access Connection tool, the company says.

NVIDIA'S NEXT-GEN GPUS SET FOR LAUNCH
Nvidia will launch new GeForce GPU (graphics processing units) tomorrow using its next-generation "Fermi" architecture, The Wall Street Journal reports. It's said the products will include 512 cores and three billion transistors, doubling the amounts in the company's previous chips.
