You never want to rush out a project prematurely: the Town Car debuted in '59, then disappeared for a decade before reemerging -- a second chance O-Town will hopefully be afforded, but that's in God's hands. Finally ready to properly emerge, Neo Pizza Napoletana, opening Tuesday.
Neo began taking shape when Olivella's owner claimed this cavernous Victory Park space 2+ years ago, but he only just recently got the backing to rightly outfit it, with a mix of NYC detritus (front doors from Brooklyn Naval Yard, mirror frames from Flatiron Bldg) and functionality (butcher-block bar tables, big bay doors), plus dual bars and a potted-flora patio (potting fauna: inhumane, but hilarious). Shipped from Tuscany, two oak-burning ovens fuel dueling dining zones, with the main room serving pastas like linguini a la vongole, a dozen sandwiches (the house-mozz-topped Sausage Parmigiano; the mortadella/turkey/prosciutto/salami/cheddar "Italian"), and 14 pizzas, highlighted by "The Dream": mozz, gorg, pancetta, chicken, and jalapenos -- quit it cold turkey, and get The Dream Shakes. Meanwhile, the flatscreen-decked Slice Bar deals in 9in personal pies with five foundations (margherita to black truffle), and optional toppings ranging from pepperoni & olives to secret-recipe "extra-creamy mozzarella", eggs, and grape tomatoes -- as if tomatoes weren't confused enough about the vegetable vs fruit thing.
As for booze, there are 20 bottled beers, a few wines, and 11 signature cocktails like the vodka/Campari/vermouth/club soda "Napoli". There's also a Mon-Fri 2-7pm happy hour with $2 doms, wells, and vodka/limoncello-spiked Frozen Limontinis -- attack those with an All-or-Nothing attitude, and you too should disappear for a decade.
More stuff: one of those bars is inside-outside, there's a Nutella/peanut butter dessert calzone, and most chow's available for take-out or catering. Be The One at NeoPizzeria.com.
