Six killed in Pakistan suicide bombing

BANNU, Pakistan (UPI) -- A suicide bomb attack in a town near Pakistan's tribal region Tuesday killed at least six people and injured a dozen others, police said.

The incident occurred near the police station in the town of Bannu, Pakistan's Geo News reported.

The dead included two police personnel and a child.

Hospital sources told Geo News the suicide bomber blew himself up near a police van.

Military's 'Don't ask' report to released

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Department's long-anticipated report on the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy is being prepared for release Tuesday to lawmakers.

Pentagon officials will distribute advance copies of the report on the policy barring gays and lesbians from openly serving in the military and brief staff members of the House and Senate Armed Services committees, CNN reported.

U.S. must lower high school dropout rate

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- The United States needs the equivalent of World War II's Marshall Plan to increase the number of high school graduates, an education report recommended.

The report, released Tuesday by Gen. Colin Powell's America's Promise Alliance, said the United States has the ability to end what it calls an epidemic of high school dropouts.

18 bodies found in mass grave in Mexico

PALOMAS, Mexico (UPI) -- Officials in the Mexican state of Chihuahua were investigating the gruesome discovery of a mass grave containing 18 bodies, authorities said.

While confirming Friday's discovery of the grave, the Chihuahua state attorney general's office could not say how long the bodies had been buried, CNN reported Tuesday.
