Holocaust wolf hoax author gets nothing

BOSTON (UPI) -- A publisher owes nothing to the writer of a hoax memoir about surviving the Holocaust with the help of wolves, a Massachusetts appeals court ruled.

But Mount Ivy Press owner Jane Daniel -- publisher of the 1997 best-selling "Misha: A Memoire of the Holocaust Years" -- does owe $10 million to the book's ghostwriter, who did not know the story was a hoax, the state Appeals Court ruled.

China helps victims of Cambodian accident

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (UPI) -- China has given Cambodia $500,000 to help families and victims of a stampede that killed 375 people and injured nearly 800 others, officials said.

The stampede resulted when people panicked Monday on the final day of Cambodia's Water Festival at Diamond Island Bridge, authorities said.

Salvation Army accepts plastic

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (UPI) -- A Florida branch of the Salvation Army announced it is now accepting credit cards at its famous donation kettles.

The Salvation Army of Broward County said the credit card reading kettles will allow donors to swipe MasterCard, Visa or Discover cards and will dispense two receipts, one for the charity and one for the donor's records, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Friday.

'Peace Torch' flies commercial to Austria

LOD, Israel (UPI) -- A "Peace Torch" lit in Israel as part of an Austrian Christmas initiative became the first flaming torch in the world to be carried on a commercial flight.
