Splitsville
The over-the-top, retro-futuristic bowling center opens its
second area location today in Fairview, offering 17 lanes,
two full-service bars (with 12 beers on tap), and a
far-from-alley-fare menu including hand-tossed pizza, sushi,
and sliders ranging from the double-patty Juicy Lucy to the
pork/corned beef/pickles Cuban Reuben, slathered in Thousand
Island -- inevitable, since Russian dressing no longer has
the Cash-stro to sponsor another sandwich.

Beer Can Darl
Darl's a crafty Dentonite who turns old-school cans into
wall-mount mosaics by cutting, then flattening, then gluing
the metal onto old-but-sturdy beer bottle crate sides, thus
proving that one man's trashed is another's treasure.

Squeals On Wheels
Screen Door, known for mingling "time-tested mainstays from
Grandma's kitchen" with fresher Southern takes, has a
spanking-new food cart offering downtown lunchers to-gos
like pulled pork & citrus slaw sammies, a
meat/cheddar/roasted pepper-stuffed baked sweet potato, and
good old-fashioned Butterfinger cookies, which hopefully
won't bring back memories of that time Grandma laid a finger
on you.

Springer
Based in the Fair Park area, Springer's run by an NY expat
out to salvage as much quality tree product as he can to
turn into custom-designed, hand-fabricated anything, from
tables to utensils; before moving here last year with his
Dallas-bred wife, the RISD grad woodworked in Philly and
NYC, and apprenticed with artists Christo and Jeanne Claude,
who made a Double Impact on his career.

Zouk
A near-complete, heavily mirrored, chromed & purple-plushed
renovation of the legendary Starck Club space, Zouk aims to
revive the days of deliriously chic recklessness via four
full bars, a state-of-the-art DJ booth plunked down smack in
the middle of everything, and an adjacent catwalk accessible
only by the most alluring dancers. Though there will be a
girls-'n-boys waiting lounge, gone are the unisex bathrooms,
meaning Jane can no longer see Dick run.
