Sunjoy outdoor fireplaces recalled

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- A Steubenville, Ohio, firm is recalling about 20,000 freestanding steel outdoor fireplaces with chimneys that can catch fire, federal regulators said.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the Sunjoy Industries Group Limited was recalling the fireplaces, an additional 400 of which were sold in Canada, as they have received reports of decorative powder coat finishes in the chimneys catching fire.

Study: One in 10 is underemployed

RENO, Nev. (UPI) -- At least one in 10 U.S. workers in the current workforce is considered underemployed, a study done at the University of Nevada, Reno, said.

But depending on how underemployment is defined, that number could change to one out of every three workers, says the study titled "I have a Job, But ..." published in the Journal of Management.

Sanus Elements surge protectors recalled

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- Milestone AV Technologies of Savage, Minn., is recalling about 2,500 surge protectors due to a shock hazard, federal regulators said.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the Sanus Elements surge protectors imported from China were sold at home theater dealers from June 2009 through December 2010 for about $90 apiece.

Spain home sales on the rise

MADRID (UPI) -- For the first time in four years, home sales rose in Spain by nearly 14 percent, the Public Works Ministry said Monday.

Sales in 2011 were up 5.9 percent at 491,000 units, and purchases were up 14.2 percent at 150,268 units in the fourth quarter alone, El Pais reported Tuesday.

The government removed tax breaks for all but lower-income groups and raised the value-added tax rate on new housing sales from 7 percent to 8 percent.
