Jaitapur

Dear Indiana,

So many of us marched to the Parliament on Friday, March 25th. Different banners and placards gave one message; people of this country don’t want dangerous nuclear technology.[1]

You should support the people of Jaitapur here
India has a lot to learn from Japan’s tragedy. All the nuclear plants in the country, especially the one in Jaitapur in Maharashtra, need to be reviewed. Like Fukushima in Japan, Jaitapur falls in an earth quake prone zone.[2] The thought of a Japan-like disaster in India and the way it would be handled is quite scary.

The people of Jaitapur don’t want this plant,[3] but the government is bent on having its way.[4] Over 70,000 people have signed a petition supporting them already. Our lives and the environment is at stake. We need to show the government that opposition to the Jaitapur plant cuts across state borders.

You should sign this to show your support for the people of Jaitapur.

Those protesting in Jaitapur are being suppressed and arrested. Lots of signatures showing support for them will help show the government that the people in Jaitapur are not the only ones who do not want the nuclear plant.

Nuclear radiation is dangerous and its impacts are felt for generations. Instead of this, the government needs to invest more in safe and clean renewable energy options and maximizing energy efficiency.

Post Japan, the entire world is reviewing and even halting existing nuclear operations.[5] Our government needs to do the same and switch to safer and cleaner options instead. Tell them now.

Thanks a billion!
