Virgin Galactic Announces First Commercial Contract for Manned Suborbital Flights

Virgin Galactic has announced a deal with the Southwest Research institute (SwRI (News - Alert)) to fly scientists up to eight times into space on suborbital hops onboard the company's SpaceShipTwo vehicle.

As a part of the contract, SwRI has made "full deposits" for two research flights with the "intent" to make arrangements for an additional six seats at a total contract value of $1.6 million.
