WINDOWS EMBEDDED STANDARD 7 SERVICE PACK 1 FINALIZED
Microsoft released a final version of its Service Pack 1 for Windows Embedded Standard 7. Downloadable now, it provides multimedia-centric "RemoteFX" improvements to RDP (remote desktop protocol) that can speed up thin clients, plus new tools to help developers ensure they're complying with the operating system's licensing requirements.

MICROSOFT RELEASES VISUAL STUDIO 2010 SERVICE PACK
Microsoft has announced the release of Visual Studio 2010 Service
Pack 1 (Visual Studio SP1) along with some new Feature Packs for .NET
developers. The new release includes better help, IntelliTrace support for 64-bit and SharePoint, and Silverlight 4 tools, according to the company.

ARM CORTEX-A9 SOC WILL DRIVE DASHBOARDS OF THE FUTURE
Fujitsu announced an ARM Cortex-A9 SoC (system on chip) designed for embedded graphical applications in the automotive market. The MB86R12 Emerald-P includes a 533MHz CPU core, three independent display controllers, four camera inputs, and support for Inova Semiconductors' APIX 2 technology, the chipmaker says.

USB DEVICE LETS MULTIPLE USERS SHARE ONE PC
Pluggable announced a device that allows multiple users to share a single Windows or Linux PC via USB. The DC-125 USB 2.0 Docking Client includes an upstream port for connection to a host, two downstream USB 2.0 ports, audio I/O jacks, and a VGA output that supports screens up to 1280 x 1024 pixels, the company says.

FORTHCOMING AMD PROCESSORS REVEALED
AMD plans to add two chips and "Turbo Core" acceleration technology to its successful line of E-Series APUs (accelerated processing units) in the third quarter, says the Xbitlabs website. Meanwhile shipments of high-end, "Bulldozer"-based FX-Series chips will start in June, and mid-range "Llano"-based A-Series devices in July, according to writer Anton Shilov.

INTEL'S SANDY BRIDGE ENHANCEMENTS INCLUDE REMOTE KILL FOR STOLEN DEVICES
Intel announced security and manageability enhancements for its "Sandy Bridge" range of Core processors. Targeting desktop PCs, portables, and embedded devices such as ATMs, the vPro technology includes a "poison pill" that can disable stolen devices, a new identify protection feature, enhanced KVM (keyboard video mouse) operation, plus automated configuration features.

ASUS NETBOOKS ARE AMD-POWERED, OFFER HD VIDEO
Asus has revealed two netbooks equipped with AMD "Fusion" processors and HD-capable Radeon graphics. The Eee PC 1015B comes with a 10.1-inch screen and either the dual-core C-50 or single-core C-30, while the Eee PC 1215B has a 12.1-inch screen, dual-core C-50 or E-350 processors, plus optional USB 3.0 and Bluetooth 3.0.

HYPERVISOR SUPPORTS ATOM, 64-BIT GUEST OSES
LynuxWorks announced a new version of its Windows-compatible separation kernel and hypervisor. LynxSecure 5.0 now offers increased performance, support for 64-bit and symmetric multi-processing (SMP) guest OS virtualization, plus compatibility with Intel's Atom E6xx processors and "second generation" Core CPUs, the company says.

KONTRON FIELDS BEVY OF SANDY BRIDGE BOARDS
Kontron announced a quartet of boards featuring Intel's "second generation" Core processors. They include the KTQM67M/mITX Mini-ITX board, the KT67/FLEX FlexATX board, the CP6003-SA CompactPCI board, and the VX3035 VPX board, according to the company.

THIN MINI-ITX BOARDS WILL CUT DEVICE COSTS, INTEL SAYS
All-in-one PCs, ATMs, gaming machines, and other embedded devices could be set for a price cut, thanks to a new motherboard format being promoted by Intel. "Thin Mini-ITX" boards, set for broad availability in mid-2011, will bring standardization to products that previously required custom solutions, the chipmaker says.
