Building a 'Killer Environment:' Steps for Service Providers to Drive Innovation and Agility

The war that is raging among service providers and operating systems is not as much about the service delivery as it is about the apps. Is there one killer application that rules them all? No, and the chances of one evolving in the near future is unlikely. Instead, the focus should be on the killer environment that provides agility and flexibility to drive sustainable success.


A recent Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) white paper, Driving Agility and Innovation: A Primer for Service Providers, focused on the importance of applications and an agile service framework. Not only is the opportunity for apps huge in the consumer sector, it may be even bigger in the enterprise market as companies are eager to provide their employees with enhancements in productivity and access to eCommerce, self-service and billing records management, among others.


To focus on increasing agility, service provides have a wide variety of new business models to choose from that will extend out the value of their strategy and enable applications. While communication service providers are making significant investments in the necessary next-generation infrastructure to support the demand for rich applications, there is also a strong focus on the potential in partnering among service providers, content providers and application developers.
