The Playbook

Don: SOLO Eyewear
SOLO slings Wayfarer-esque shades marrying plastic frames with bamboo arms, then gives customers the choice to provide someone in need with Rx eyeglasses, or fund potentially sight-saving pancreas surgery. Looking for a little help with their next run, they've launched a Kickstarter where you can pre-order a new metal/ bamboo combo pair, plus get sweet discounts on their existing model in styles like the light-blue "Beachwoods", gloss-black "Blackwoods", and tortoise-shell "T-Woods" whose own corrective eye-surgery might've helped him see that his own wife was actually pretty hot.
Add a little benevolence to your style at SOLOEyewear.com

Change Up: Urban Eats
3850 Fifth Ave; Hillcrest; 858.729.4588
There once was a Hillcrest resto called Taco Banh that opened for a week, before closing for several more weeks, completely changing concepts, and re-opening as Urban Eats -- a decidedly non-Asian taco-slinging "local eatery... offering classics & twists on traditional dishes" like a pulled pork sandwich w/ cider slaw & crispy onion rings, "uptown" meatloaf w/ tomato compote, smashed potatoes and wild mushroom au jus, and a low slow pork w/ creamy polenta, crispy bacon & a honey mustard glaze. The End?
They don't have a website yet, but fear not young squire, we've got you covered right here

Get Festive: San Diego Brew and Crew
Ski Beach; 1600 Vacation Rd; Mission Bay

If supporting events in which small people yell "stroke" at bigger people in boats doesn't do it for you, you clearly didn't go to Country Day and row for ZLAC, but might nonetheless be intrigued by the SD Brew and Crew. Pay two Andy Jacksons to hit up the inaugural Ski Beach event supporting the SD Crew Classic and you'll get 10 beer tastings (from the likes of Green Flash, Stone, and Left Coast) as well as a commemorative tasting cup, live music, and access to food trucks like Flippin' Pizza, the Pierogi Truck, and Chubby's.
There will be fun and, most likely, sun, so snag your tickets right here

Taste: Whiskeys of the World Pairing Dinner
March 30th, 630p, at The Westgate Hotel: 1055 2nd Ave; Gaslamp Quarter; 619.557.3655
Jacking your Coke in favor of more intoxicating beverages, The Westgate's holding a five-course, international hooch-paired feast full of delectables like day boat sea scallops with hackleback caviar/ baby rocket pesto/ fennel (paired with Bushmills 10), prime rib tenderloin (paired with Lagavulin 16), and a bittersweet chocolate souffle with Johnnie Walker ice cream and Johnnie Walker Gold. Sharing history/ folklore bits will be '72 Harley-riding brown liquor master Ed Adams, who believes "having the right whiskey at the right time can turn a moment into a memory", though having too much of that right whiskey will mean the memory only lasts a moment.
Pour over the full menu and reserve your spot at WestgateHotel.com
