The NCAA doesn’t have a robot league yet, but that hasn’t stopped high school students from all over the world from pitting their robot basketball teams against one another. The prizes? Bragging rights and the chance to compete for a national title in St. Louis in late April.
Temple University served as the latest site of the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) competition. Robot teams from Delaware, New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania took the floor with their human operators to compete for basketball glory.
FIRST was created by Dean Kamen in 1989 with the mission of creating a culture in which science and technology are celebrated.
