Every Apple device is subjected to a breadth of conjecture before its launch, and the rumor mill usually goes into hyper-drive. It is the iPad and the iPhone (News - Alert), however, which enjoy the maximum attention by the so-called “cult of Mac”. The iPod family somehow gets a backseat.
Those looking to update their iPod would be pleased to know Apple is currently working on an upgrade of the iPod Touch. While the Apple PR team has not confirmed this officially, the industry grapevine is ripe with rumors about a version “5.1.”
Rumored to release this fall, the latest incarnation of the iPod Touch will be the fifth-generation iPod touch, featuring major internal changes. According to the internal iOS 5.1-build file found by 9to5Mac, the so-called iPod Touch 5.1 will include an A5 or A5X-like chip and a faster hardware to further reiterate the iPod Touch’s position as a gaming device.
No further information is available on this rather surprising development. But it won’t come as a surprise if the iPod Touch supports 3G and offers the same functionality as the iPad.
