Zayo Group Looks to Extend Fiber Optic Network with AboveNet Acquisition

In an effort to expand its high-bandwidth fiber optic footprint, privately-held Zayo Group on Monday agreed to acquire fellow network operator AboveNet for around $2.2 billion.

The agreement allows Avnet to supply a wide range of quality networking products from QLogic to the African and Middle Eastern markets.



Halyard Capital, Meritage Funds and Sweetwater Capital came together to create a data center colocation facility under the name Digital Fortress Inc. That business is now coming into its own with the announcement of its acquisition of the data farms Digital Forest and and Fortress Colocation Services.



United, a part of the Euro Media Group (EMG), announced it will be use Brocade Ethernet fabric and Brocade MLXe Series routers to upgrade its end-to-end network and enhance its services. United is a full-service company providing facilities, technical and creative support for multimedia audiovisual productions, and its higher traffic volumes in the video production environment is expected to touch 16 terabytes.



StorageQuest Inc., a global source for data and archive management software and hardware, recently announced its new Optical Network Appliance (ONA) is now available. A headless server system, ONA comes with an array of Blu-Ray optical drives, connected via iSCSI to any Windows 7 Pro, Windows 2003 or Windows 2007 server.



Basin Electric Power has signed an agreement with Aviat Networks for its Eclipse Packet Node microwave platform as the electric utility gears up for replacing its existing networks in North and South Dakota.
