Dear Indiana,
Fracking fluid could be the newest trendy beverage!
Just ask Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, who told a Senate committee (see the story at Huffington Post) that he's sampled the forbidden fluid. He told them: "You can drink it" and "I'm still alive."
Hickenlooper is just backing up what fracking industry executives have been telling us for years: fracking fluid is safe enough to drink. This revelation has led to a creative way to dispose of the millions of gallons of waste that come from each fracking well: turn it into Frack-o-cola!
Before you look for Frack-o-cola on your grocery store shelves (either to buy it or protest it), you should check the date on this email. But while Frack-o-cola may not appear anytime soon, it is absolutely true that the fracking industry is trying to fool us into thinking fracking fluid is safe.
Sign this petition and let them know you're not fooled!
Fracking fluid is nasty stuff. Maybe drinking it once won't kill you, but it's far from safe. We don't know everything that's in it, because fracking is exempt from the Safe Drinking Water Act and the industry doesn't have to disclose what they use. But we do know that fracking fluid contains over 600 chemicals, and that when it's pumped into the ground during natural gas drilling, it can contaminate our fresh water.
Much of the fluid comes back to the surface as waste, which contains arsenic, lead, benzene, toluene and naphthalene, among many others, and even contains radioactive materials. Some of these chemicals are carcinogens; others damage the nervous system, kidneys or liver.
I wouldn't drink that, and I bet you wouldn't either. Then why are we injecting fracking fluid into the ground where it can get into our drinking water? If you wouldn't drink fracking fluid, sign the petition to tell your elected officials that fracking isn't safe. Speak out against the dangers of fracking: https://secure3.convio.net/fww/site/Advocacy?pagename=homepage&page=UserAction&id=639 Thanks for taking action, Jo Miles Online Organizer Food & Water Watch act(at)fwwatch(dot)org
P.S. Can you help us get the word out? After you sign the petition, forward this email to your friends and family to tell them about Frack-o-cola. |
