That was the message this morning from Cassidy Shield, vice president of marketing of IP platforms at Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert), who provided the opening keynote speech at ITEXPO. The technology known as IMS first made its appearance in telecom networks. Shield estimates IMS is used in 20 to 30 percent of telecom networks today, and he says its adoption continues to grow at a rate of 15 percent, driven in large part by mobile networks.
However, telecom and IT are coming together rapidly, he said, so Alcatel-Lucent recognized that some of its work in the telecom arena can be applied to the enterprise market to help CIOs and IT staffs address the app store trend, the BYOD phenomenon, and the rise of the cloud. And one of the telecom solutions Alcatel-Lucent is leveraging now to help enterprises is IMS.
