The Most Terrifying Jack-o'-Lanterns Ever

Posted: 02 Nov 2014 02:00 AM PST

On Halloween, children approached the door for treats. So did a few reckless teenagers--though with some hesitation. But no one else went near that house ever again. Even the residents who unearthed the ghastly horror soon fled in madness, forever scarred by what they had seen.

The Doctor's "London Callbox" by Captain RibMan

When the Doctor returned to London he wanted to do so in a big way, but there were some rolling trashcans armed with lasers terrorizing the city he loved. The Doctor had been calling the faraway towns for weeks, trying to make sure nothing was burning and no zombies of death were walking around, but there was no reply and when he landed his blue police box in Trafalgar Square he saw why- everyone had gone underground to avoid being exterminated...

Add some sci-fi cool to your geeky wardrobe with this The Doctor's "London Calling" t-shirt by Captain RibMan, it definitely won't clash with the rest of your wardrobe and everyone who sees it will know you rock!

Spiral Staircases as Photography Subjects

Posted: 02 Nov 2014 12:00 AM PDT

Michael Koller posted this beautiful photo series of spiral staircases to his Instagram account. These photographs catch the eye with their repeating geometric shapes and sense of endless perspective. Each minor architectural detail of a staircase makes for a distinctive pattern that adds interest and texture to the photograph. More spiral staircase photographs can be found by searching the hashtag “#theworldneedsmorespiralstaircases.”

A Guide to the Races and Characters of Star Wars

Posted: 01 Nov 2014 10:00 PM PDT

Neil Cicierega grew up with Star Wars and Star Trek. He previously introduced us to the common non-human species on Star Trek. Now he's giving us a tour of the peoples of the Star Wars universe, including several of the named characters, such as Admiral Ackbar of the California Raisins and the crime boss Jabba the Hump.

The Oxford Comma and Other Punctuation Marks

Posted: 01 Nov 2014 08:00 PM PDT

It seems like you're never going to get people to agree on the value of the Oxford comma, but then again, it's not the most important argument in punctuation use. Jorge Cham at PhD Comics explains punctuation in a modern way that anyone with college experience -yours or someone else’s- can understand. It’s all in the example you give. -Thanks, Ken!

Misconceptions from the Movies

Mental Floss produced this video highlighting misconceptions in movies. What plot devices and actions commonly seen in movies are unrealistic? Megashocker: quite a few. Who would have thought?! Check out the video. I'll be back later... my car needs its gas tank refilled and I need a cigarette. Nothing like multitasking! -Via Tastefully Offensive

How Your Cats View You

There's a monster in Catropolis. That monster is Yasmine, the artist behind Cat Versus Human.

She is a menace to all feline life in Catropolis. They've tried to hide from her and wait for her rampages to subside. But this approach is no longer effective. They must take drastic measures to ensure their survival. Read on to experience their tale.

Elaborate Ewok Diorama

Posted: 01 Nov 2014 02:00 PM PDT

November first is Ewok Appreciation Day, a holiday that started only last year, as far as I can tell. We were introduced to the Ewoks in 1983 in the movie Return of the Jedi. To many fans, it was obvious that the characters were designed with merchandising in mind, so there was an “Ewok backlash.” That was later eclipsed by hatred of Jar Jar Binks from the prequels. But now enough time has passed since Return of the Jedi that there is significant number of Star Wars fans who loved the Ewoks as children.

David Mizejewski is one of those fans, and the first Ewok Appreciation Day inspired him to construct an elaborate Ewok diorama using his childhood toys! He also bought new ones, and the result is a little slice of Endor, unveiled today. The above picture doesn’t do it justice, because there are a lot of tiny scenes, with multiple levels, fire, living plants, and alien invaders.

Hilarious Reviews for the Sexy PhD Costume

Posted: 01 Nov 2014 12:00 PM PDT

Once a year, at graduation exercises, I slip on my sultry academic regalia and sashay out with the other faculty. But I don't look quite like this.

That's because I never got a doctorate. If I did, you might get to see my legs in the Delicious Women's Phd Darling Sexy Costume--an outfit that, I assure you, presents an accurate impression of the academic life.

Labor at length for up to a decade, go into great debt, and write a book-length treatise that no one will ever read, and you can look like this.

Some customers, though, say that the robe does not match common academic standards.

Alex Santoso, the owner of Neatorama, has a doctorate. But it's not in sexy. You can be certain of that.

Brilliant Idea for a Car Wash: A Foam Blasting Gun

Posted: 01 Nov 2014 08:00 AM PDT

Courtesy of redditor hadukem comes this photo of a fascinating gadget for an automatic car wash. The Suds Blaster turns an automatic car wash into a video game! Stick in your quarters and start spraying down targets.

I can see how it would be a great money-maker. People might pay extra just for the joy of playing with a powerful toy.

Classical Music is Super Hot

Posted: 01 Nov 2014 07:00 AM PDT

(YouTube link)

It’s true that beautiful music can sometimes bring tears to your eyes. In this video, the Danish National Chamber Orchestra plays Tango Jalousie, which is nice. But then they stop and eat a hot pepper, either a Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Blend, a Carolina Reaper, or a Ghost pepper. The rest of it is a test of their dedication to their art. Maybe I should add that this isn’t the entire orchestra -just the volunteers. This stunt is brought to you by Chili Klaus, (previously at Neatorama) who serves as the conductor as well as the instigator. -via Viral Viral Videos

DINE-O-SAUR - The Cafeteria Carnivore

Posted: 01 Nov 2014 06:00 AM PDT

DINE-O-SAUR by CrewsCreative

He's a beast with an appetite as big as the great outdoors, but his little tiny arms make it impossible to get his food back to his table! They call him a savage, a mongrel, and look upon his eating habits with disdain, but you can't blame the guy for just chowing down when he can't carry much. Maybe they should start making those trays with arm straps attached to the bottom, then you'll see how civilized a T-Rex can be at feeding time.

Bring a buffet full of funny to your geeky wardrobe with this DINE-O-SAUR t-shirt by CrewsCreative, your fellow dino fans will totally eat it up!

Indepth Interview with Stephen King

Posted: 01 Nov 2014 06:00 AM PDT

Fans of Stephen King will like this Rolling Stone interview with him from his office just outside Bangor, Maine, which "sits on a particularly dreary dead-end road... just down the street from a gun-and-ammo store, a snowplow dealership and, appropriately enough, an old cemetery." Perfect.

Visit Rolling Stone to read the interview, the scope of which spans King's entire career.
