The Universe’s Best-Dressed Spiritual Leader Posted: 30 Jan 2016 04:00 AM PST Ernest and Ruth Norman founded the Unarius Academy of Science in 1954. It’s a philosophy that includes reincarnation, extraterrestrials, and visions of utopia. From Ernest’s death in 1971 to her own passing in 1993, Ruth Norman led the group as the Archangel Uriel.
An article at Racked has some background on Unarius, which is still a functioning organization, but mainly focuses on Uriel’s clothing, particularly the costumes used in the films she left behind. It’s a dazzling trip through a girl’s dress-up fantasies crossed with New Age spiritualism. And it has quite a few nifty pictures. -via Digg
Posted: 30 Jan 2016 02:00 AM PST The good people of Kuma Films travel around the world, documenting the amazing physical abilities of people. They demonstrate that dance is not something limited to a formal choreography, but any bodily movement that is perfected with time and talent. In the past, we’ve seen their videos of lightsaber training, contact juggling, yoyo tricks, and cardistry. Now they bring us a man who dances in, around, through, and with a steel cube.

Posted: 29 Jan 2016 11:00 PM PST (Photo: baKBlade) Unless you’re some sort of back hair artist, you’ll need to keep to your body lawn properly mowed. It’s a difficult and time consuming weekly chore for most men, made all the more difficult by small razors, a large surface area, and non-dislocated shoulders. The baKBlade Bigmouth has a 4-inch blade fitted within a toothed comb that grabs and chops the hair. There’s a long handle so that there’s no spot on your body that you won’t be able to shave. The company says that you don’t need to use shaving cream. I guess that’s because it’s actually trimming the hair very close to your skin rather than bringing the blade into direct contact with it. Here’s a demonstration video. -via Dude I Want That
Reddit Photoshop Battle: This Rather Smug Looking Goat Posted: 29 Jan 2016 10:00 PM PST Original Image: THE Picture of Goat Defiance Just how Redditors interpret the goat's countenance is currently being expressed in a Reddit photoshop battle thread. The results are rich; a few are pictured here. Check them all out at Reddit. Via Daily Dot
Posted: 29 Jan 2016 09:00 PM PST "Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Indiana Solo would have dealt with Kylo Ren a bit differently, as this remix of a classic scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark demonstrates. Put the lightsaber away and just use a gun. -via Geek Art Gallery
DEADPOOL X DEATHSTROKE - Two Mercs With Equally Stunning Moves Posted: 29 Jan 2016 08:00 PM PST DEADPOOL X DEATHSTROKE by BetMac The Pool and The Stroke would probably be best friends if they ever met, but sadly their universes are bound to never cross due to licensing restrictions and the fact that those superguys can only deal with one ornery merc at a time. Wade and Slade, doesn't that sound like the name of an electrifying dance duo? Maybe if the two had met they would have put down the swords and guns and simply danced their cares away, leaving all the killing and tough guy banter to those who haven't learned to release their pent up aggression through movement. But now the dream of the Wilsons becoming a dance team is dead, and my death is right around the corner for suggesting such a ridiculous thing...hold on, that's the doorbell... Raise the ridiculousness bar high with this DEADPOOL X DEATHSTROKE t-shirt by BetMac, it's the superheroic way to have a little fun with your geeky style! Renaissance Castle Hidden Inside Oregon Home Posted: 29 Jan 2016 08:00 PM PST When Almine Barton bought a normal middle-class house in Newport, Oregon, in 1979, she knew she had to change it to suit her taste. But she left the outside as it was, because she didn’t want a higher property tax assessment. But the inside underwent a complete overhaul. She brought in stained glass salvaged from churches in England, imported velvet curtains, antiques, crystal chandeliers, and even a full suit of armor to decorate her home.
There are a few normal contemporary rooms in the back, hidden behind closed doors. Barton is selling the home now for $399,000. See 47 pictures of the house at Yahoo! Real Estate. Get more details on the property at its listing. -via Fark
Drone Snowboarding is the Thrilling Future of Winter Sports Posted: 29 Jan 2016 07:00 PM PST Andrew Liszewski of Gizmodo is a bit more skeptical of that than I am. But I think that all that is necessary right now is adding to the quadcopter drones (maybe 3 in tandem) and getting a smaller child, such as a toddler. Once engineers can build more powerful drones, then drone snowboarding won’t be simply a sport, but a form of everyday transportation.
Tony The Tiger Versus The Furries Posted: 29 Jan 2016 06:00 PM PST It seems only natural that Furries would find the Frosted Flakes spokescat Tony The Tiger appealing, because he's the epitome of a heroic masculine anthropomorph, and his voice is pretty cool too. But some Furries (or quite possibly fake Furries trolling) have been taking their love of Tony too far on social media, forcing Tony to bite their mascot-sized heads off and block them on Twitter. The blocking of all Furries from @realtonytiger really got under their fake fur, so they took to Twitter to complain about the unfairness of it all with the hashtag #tonytigergate. But it all worked out for both cartoon spokesanimals and Furries alike in the end, because Chester the Cheeto munching Cheetah came out and welcomed all fans, freaky Furries or otherwise. Oh Chester, you have so much love to give... -Via Cheezburger
Sake-Flavored Kit Kat Contains Actual Alcohol Posted: 29 Jan 2016 05:00 PM PST (Photo: Nari Nari) Japan is crazy for Kit Kat chocolate bars and that nation is home to numerous flavors that Americans might find unusual, including soy sauce and green tea. Now residents of Japan can get Kit Kat bars flavored with rice wine. They consist of 0.08% alcohol, so you will need to eat a lot of them in order to get a real sake experience. I humbly volunteer for that task. You can read more about these new Kit Kats at Kotaku.
Posted: 29 Jan 2016 04:00 PM PST We've all seen the credits of movies roll by, and in them various job titles. But unless we've worked on a movie set, it's not likely we know what each of those titles means. Let this video enlighen viewers as to the range of job titles on film productions and what duties they entail.
Scary Good Photographic Recreations Of Bosch Paintings Posted: 29 Jan 2016 03:00 PM PST The surreal, and often nightmarish, scenes featured in Hieronymus Bosch's paintings, such as The Last Judgment or The Garden Of Earthly Delights, are still seen as some of the most terrifying visions of Hell on Earth ever illustrated. Bosch's unique take on that demonic look has influenced artists for centuries, but few photographers have ever tackled the difficult task of bringing these characters to life quite like Lori Pond. Lori lets the Bosch influence shine through in her photos without allowing the literal translations to dull the character's edge, because they're supposed to be mysterious and bizarre beings after all. But what's truly surprising about Lori's images is the fact that they're only a tad digitally enhanced:

Posted: 29 Jan 2016 01:00 PM PST Is it any wonder we hide from mass communication these days? The only people we hear from are those who want our money. Sifting through the mess to find anything worthwhile is a chore. I do get an occasional email or call from my kids, but it turns out that they want money, too. This is the latest comic from Sarah Andersen at Sarah’s Scribbles.
Pictures That Perfectly Capture The Craziness Of Blizzard 2016 Posted: 29 Jan 2016 12:00 PM PST The Blizzard of 2016 came in with a mighty quiet roar and blanketed the (mostly Eastern) United States under inches, if not feet, of snow, literally causing New York to come to a standstill for a few days. With lots of that cold white stuff falling everywhere, and people unable to leave their homes for extended periods of time, the times spent outdoors brought out the silliness in some people. But at least most of those stranded by the snowstorm were in good spirits, and instead of seeing the snow as something to weigh the spirit down they saw Mother Nature's bounty as a cool way to share some smiles! Sometimes You Break Their Hearts, Sometimes They Break Yours Posted: 29 Jan 2016 11:00 AM PST Marie-Helene Bertino wrote an essay in the persona of an alien, sent from a planet with an untranslatable name, to study humans and send back reports via fax. Musings on human beings and their strange ways from an alien point of view is nothing new, but this is funny.
Of course, the above observation could have been written by any earthling. How about this:

Not Fair Armwrestler - Hey, Is That A Superguy Behind You?! Posted: 29 Jan 2016 10:00 AM PST Not Fair Armwrestler by Majanation When you're arm wrestling a supervillain you don't expect them to play fair, but get two of the worst beings in the multiverse together to muscle it out and you've got a recipe for total annihilation! But maybe the act of arm wrestling an equally strong, and equally wicked, foe will keep Thanos and Darkseid occupied for a while, and therefore keep the galaxy free from their wicked ways, until one of them figures out how to win... Your fellow comic fans will marvel at this amazing Not Fair Armwrestler t-shirt by Majanation, and it's sure to start some arguments about who is a better publisher, DC or those other guys... Visit Majanation's Facebook fan page and official website, then head on over to his NeatoShop for more mighty geeky designs:

This Handy Gadget Will Help You Invade England Posted: 29 Jan 2016 10:00 AM PST (Image: National Maritime Museum) Your task is to invade England from across the English Channel. This has been done twice successfully, many times unsuccessfully, and countless times in the dreams of military planners. The challenge is to move an army across the water and then maintain a supply chain long enough for the invading army to become locally sufficient. By 1798, the project had become all but impossible due to the supremacy of the Royal Navy. But that did not stop French generals and admirals from dreaming up ways of bypassing the Royal Navy, including digging a tunnel beneath the Channel and moving troops with balloons. This image in the National Maritime Museum in London shows one proposed method that existed only in the terrified imaginations of Britons. It’s a huge fort on a raft that would carry 60,000 soldiers:

What is the Best Country in the World? Posted: 29 Jan 2016 09:00 AM PST The staff of Jimmy Kimmel Live went out on the streets to ask children which country is the best country in the world. Their answers show that U.S. schools have dropped patriotic indoctrination lessons, and they’ve apparently also dropped basic geography. Considering what they had to work with, the kids came up with some imaginative and amusing responses. What kid wouldn’t want to move someplace where they could have their own koala? -via Uproxx
Archer Quotes Work Really Well With James Bond Stills Posted: 29 Jan 2016 08:00 AM PST Sterling Archer can't even dream of being as good as James Bond at the secret agenting game, but that doesn't stop him from trying to channel that 007 vibe every day of his life. And while Bond has definitely made some bold and memorable statements in his films, Archer has a way with words that tends to make people say "Wow, did he really just say that?". But pretend like Archer's words are being said by James Bond and you've shaken up those fictional espionage films we all know and love in comedic style. Basically it turns Bond into a doubly drunk, somehow slightly less lecherous, more conceited and a whole lot more idiotic version of 007...with a butler, and a lemur named Reggie. 10 Technologies in Movies We Wish Were Real Posted: 29 Jan 2016 07:00 AM PST It’s pretty common to watch a movie, see a fictional gadget, and say “I want one of those!” Sadly, coming up with something wonderful in fiction is much easier than making it work in real life. Luckily, we have geniuses working on making those movie inspirations reality. What have you seen in movie that you wish were available in real life? While most of those futuristic gizmos are cool and fun, I think the Medbay would be the most useful.

Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” on Traditional Japanese Instruments Posted: 29 Jan 2016 06:00 AM PST And it totally works! The musical duo called Team Kozan performs Taylor Swift’s hit song “Shake It Off” on the koto, which is a long plucked instrument with 13 strings, and the shakuhachi, which is a notch flute made of bamboo. At the end of the video, they put down their instruments and start shaking it off. This is 1 of 6 covers of modern songs with traditional Japanese instruments rounded up by Rocket News 24. You can also find “Smooth Criminal” by Michael Jackson and “We Will Rock You” by Queen. |
