What the French Get About Aging |
|
| | Matthew Makowski Senior Health Researcher |
| | | There's a puzzle that dieticians have been trying to figure out for decades.
It's called the "French paradox."
And it goes like this...
Despite the fact that the French consume a diet that is high in saturated fat and cholesterol... and far more folks smoke in France than in the U.S... they have a surprisingly low rate of heart disease.
Now, the French's penchant for red wine is well-documented.
And that preference could very well be doing their hearts a big favor.
But the reason for their good health isn't the wine itself...
Armor for Your Heart
Scientists now believe resveratrol, which is found in red wine, could be like a suit of armor that protects the heart.
This powerful antioxidant helps protect against inflammation and oxidative stress. This explains how the French diet and their behaviors are being offset. But it comes with some heart-specific benefits of its own, like helping to maintain healthy blood pressure.
And above and beyond the heart-healthy benefits of resveratrol, its ability to stop free radicals and oxidative damage has been linked to: - Improved metabolism
- Healthier brain function
- Stabilized blood sugar levels.
Most impressive of all?
Resveratrol may help fight aging. But if you want the maximum benefits, you'll need more than a wine glass and a bottle of your favorite red... |

Flip the Switch
Now, wine isn't the only place you can score a dose of resveratrol.
It's also found (naturally) in fresh grapes and nonalcoholic grape juice.
Peanuts are another superfood that contains resveratrol. Same goes for pistachios, cocoa beans, strawberries and blueberries.
But here's the thing...
A typical 5-ounce glass of red wine contains about 0.3 milligrams of resveratrol.
But it takes more than 300 times that amount to see any sort of health benefit.
You'd have to drink between 750 and 1,500 bottles of red wine each day to get the maximum health benefits.
So wine isn't your best bet.
Neither are nuts and berries.
If you're serious about fighting aging, then you've got to check out this presentation from our own Dr. Phil Roberts right here.
It simply blew me away.
That's because he reveals a little-known "anti-aging switch" that could have the power to change everything doctors thought they knew about aging.
