"TikTok has the ability to make something go viral much quicker than anything we see on Instagram. For retailers, that is a huge advantage," Hali & Associates retail analyst Jessica Ramirez said.

Private online groups are gaining popularity among smaller brands as a way to interact with communities of friends, customers and/or influencers on platforms like Instagram, Facebook and Geneva to glean valuable product and marketing insight. For example, Golde uses Geneva to oversee its #ClubGolde ambassador program, share campaign instructions and discuss content ideas, while startup Waeve hosts 300 Waeve Baes on Instagram for influencer marketing and product input.

Spotify's analysis of 9,000 survey respondents reveals that most millennials and Generation Z believe streaming platforms have shaped how they learn about and connect with broader culture, that brands can create communities based on common interests and passions and that audio amplifies diverse perspectives more so than other media. The majority of respondents also agree that audio can relieve stress and improve their mental health.
