Thousands of people are descending on Glasgow for the Cop26 climate summit, with world leaders, diplomats and protesters among them.   The 12-day meeting in Scotland has been billed by British prime minister Boris Johnson as nothing less than a "turning point for the world" and by others as a last chance for countries to commit to dramatically reducing their planet-heating greenhouse gas emissions before it is too late.   The aim is to keep the global temperature rise by the end of the century to 1.5C above pre-industrial times, in line with the 2015 Paris Agreement, but why is that figure so important and are we on track to hit it?
