St. Louisans flocked to Soulard on Saturday and they were ready to party. Revelers were greeted with sunny skies and just enough warmth to leave their coats unbuttoned and ready to flash for beads.
The Purina Pet Parade serves as the unofficial start to the Mardi Gras season each year and this year. This year, the costumes seemed better than ever with many pets and their parents sporting matching clothes as they walked in the parade.
The party always brings out St. Louis' wild side and this year was no exception. The theme was "The Raging 20's" (a spin on the roaring 20's) and attendees showed up dressed in their Great Gatsby finest.
Wordi Gras, the self proclaimed "Redneck Mardi Gras", took place over the weekend in the small town of Worden, IL. Originating in 2006, Wordi Gras began after a group of friends had to cancel their plans of attending St. Louis's own Mardi Gras event after poor winter weather hit the area.
