Biden gets 2nd booster after outlining dire need for COVID-19 funding: One day after public officials greenlighted a second round of booster shots for everyone over the age of 50, President Joe Biden received his on Wednesday following remarks at the White House about the state of the country's COVID response and funding. For weeks, administration officials have been ringing the alarm bells about the critical need for more funding, warning of the severe consequences for Americans. On Wednesday, a White House official said the president sent an "urgent, direct message to Congress" to act swiftly to secure funding for the administration's COVID response. In addition to funding, Biden highlighted the launch of COVID.gov, a new website the White House is billing as a "one-stop shop" to help Americans get better access to prevention and care -- as well as area-specific updates on COVID-19 spread. "The bottom line, no longer will Americans have to scour the internet to find vaccines, treatments, tests or masks," he said. "It's all there."
GOP's Susan Collins to vote for Ketanji Brown Jackson for Supreme Court: Sen. Susan Collins of Maine is Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's first GOP supporter. On Wednesday, Collins released a statement saying that she will "vote to confirm" Jackson as an associate justice on the Supreme Court. On Tuesday, Collins met with Jackson for a second time and the two spoke for more than an hour behind closed doors. The senator said the meeting was "useful and productive." "I have no doubt that, if Judge Jackson is confirmed, I will not agree with every vote that she cast as a Justice," Collins said, noting that she didn't agree on every issue that was discussed with the judge. "That alone, however, is not disqualifying." The announcement Wednesday was a crucial win for President Joe Biden, especially after some Republicans took issue with the nominee during her Supreme Court confirmation hearings last week for her stance on some issues. The Judiciary Committee is expected to vote on the nomination Monday morning, putting Jackson on track to be confirmed by the end of next week.
Chris Rock 'still processing' Will Smith slap at Oscars: Chris Rock broke his silence about what happened between him and Will Smith at the 94th Academy Awards. During a show in Boston on Wednesday, the comedian briefly addressed the incident and said, "I don't have a bunch of s--- about what happened," he said. "I had like a whole show I wrote before this weekend. I'm kinda processing what happened. So at some point, I'll talk about that s---." Rock was presenting an award for best documentary at the Oscars when Smith went on stage and slapped him after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's hair. Smith has since apologized to the Academy for his actions, but the Academy on Wednesday announced it would be taking disciplinary action against the actor. The Academy also said that Smith was asked to leave the ceremony but refused. Next month, the Academy said disciplinary action may include suspension, expulsion or other sanctions.
Toddler's friendship with Publix grocer goes viral, inspires charity: After one little girl's adorable friendship first went viral in the aisles of a Publix supermarket, her mom was inspired to share their story to encourage others to embrace, and amplify life's positive moments and influences. Rachel Smith said she's been taking her 6-year-old daughter, Fiona, to the same Fort Myers, Florida, grocery store every Saturday since she was born. The store became home to one of Fiona's favorite people, Gilnet the grocer, who always gives Fiona a high five every time he sees her. Smith has shared Gilnet's acts of kindness to Fiona on Instagram, which has prompted replies from her followers asking how they could donate to Gilnet. Within three days, the $5,000 goal was surpassed. "He's inspired so many people to share their stories of their own 'High Fives," Smith told "GMA."
