This means your right to an abortion will likely depend on who your governor is – which makes our work here at the DGA more important than ever before. If this ruling takes effect this summer, more than 36 million people could be stripped of their bodily autonomy and robbed of critical – and sometimes lifesaving – healthcare. Without Roe protecting us, 26 states are “certain or likely” to ban abortion, forcing people across the country to travel hundreds of miles or use potentially unsafe abortion methods. I’m heartbroken thinking about the harm this decision could cause in communities across the country, but I’m also angry – and I refuse to stop fighting. We have urgent work to do. Democratic governors are the only ones standing in the way of dangerous attacks on abortion rights. And with 36 governors' races this year, voters across the country have a chance to elect leaders who will expand abortion rights or veto abortion bans.
