An Ignoble Experiment: A Recap of This Year's US Youth Futsal National ID Trials

Greetings!

This year's US Youth Futsal National ID was a great success! We had a record 530 players from 34 states participate in the program! These players participated in our 22 State IDs and were selected to train in Kansas City for a spot on the US Youth Futsal International Team. We had 30 of the best futsal coaches in the country to coach these great players at the National Futsal ID. Out of the 530 players who attended, the National Futsal ID saw a record 80 goalkeepers who participated in this year's trials. The goalkeepers had one designated goalkeeper session per day and also trained with their age group.

We kicked off the first day with a goalkeeper session run by the USYF Director of Goalkeeping and the US Men's Futsal National Team Assistant Coach, Otto Orf. After the goalkeeper session, USYF Technical Director and former US Men's National Team Head Coach Keith Tozer launched the player sessions. The rest of the ID program went smoothly with one more training session per age group, two goalkeeper sessions, and 2 games per age group. This year's ID also featured US Men's Futsal National Team Head Coach Dusan Jakica! Coach Dusan attended the last day of the trials and ran a clinic including some of our older players.

The top 12 players from each age group from 2010-2012 were selected to play for the US Youth Futsal International Team in Buenos Aires, Argentina this August. The top 12 players from each age group from 2004-2009 will be selected in the coming week to play for the US Youth Futsal International Team in Lisbon, Portugal this December. Those players who did not make it will have an opportunity to try again when the next cycle of USYF State IDs begins in November. Not only did players have a great time playing futsal and making new friends, but they also learned a lot from our talented coaching staff and we are excited for them to apply the new methods and techniques to improve themselves and their teammates in the upcoming season. We would like to congratulate all of the players who attended and look forward to seeing them, along with new players, at the next cycle of USYF State IDs.
