A Message from Ann

A message from Congresswoman Ann Wagner

Dear ,

Congratulations to our newest members of the Financial Services subcommittee on Capital Markets!  As the Chair of this subcommittee that will oversee our Republican majority’s capital formation priorities, I am ready to get to work with my colleagues to strengthen our public markets and provide effective oversight of Joe Biden’s federal agencies.  The Capital Markets subcommittee is going to help retail investors save for critical priorities like a down payment for a house or for their children’s education, as well as help small businesses and entrepreneurs access capital.

I have had too many heartbreaking conversations with seniors and their families who have had to deal with the tragic aftermath of financial exploitation. Seniors are often the victim of serious financial crimes and the mental toll of knowing you were coerced or deceived can be devastating. Oftentimes the victims are on a fixed income, and it can be extremely hard to recover from the shocking financial loss. After having seen the impact these types of fraud and deception can have on our senior communities in Missouri, I knew we needed to create a tool that would better protect them from financial abuse and exploitation. Last week, I introduced legislation that would safeguard our seniors from having their hard-earned money stolen from them by implementing a buffer between financial transactions if fraud is suspected.  Read my press release on this important legislation here.

Last week, I, along with my Republican colleagues in the Missouri delegation, sent a letter to the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works demanding they rescind the controversial Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule that grossly infringes on the rights of farmers and ranchers in Missouri.  This new WOTUS rule is just another way for the federal government to assert power over private citizens and take over farmland that is best served by the Missouri farmers and ranchers who know it best.  Read our full letter here.

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and sadly, the United States falls woefully short on identifying the true scope of this pervasive crime.  Every time a human trafficking case isn’t properly identified, another victim remains trapped in a cycle of exploitation. As part of my efforts to fight human trafficking, I introduced bipartisan legislation, the Put Trafficking Victims First Act, to direct the Attorney General to take action to correct this glaring deficiency and enhance support for survivors. I look forward to working with my colleagues to advance this commonsense bill and to ensure the federal government is doing everything in its power to combat sex trafficking in our communities.

I'm horrified and heartbroken by the shooting in Jerusalem.

We stand resolute against all forms of anti-Semitism and terrorist attacks against the Jewish people.

Last week we recognized Holocaust Remembrance Day. We will always remember the victims of the Holocaust and we stand against anti-Semitism in all forms.   In the words of Elie Wiesel, “For the Dead and the Living, we must bear witness.”

Sincerely,

Ann Wagner
