We did great things in 2022 — but our work is far from done. | | | | Dear Friend,
On behalf of the Alzheimer's Association, I want to extend my sincerest wishes for a happy 2023. Thanks to our caring community members, we're off to a great start in the new year, and I'm hopeful 2023 will be one of great accomplishments and progress. Together, we will continue our work to provide care and support and advance critical Alzheimer's research, along with advocating for policies that will increase federal research funding and support those impacted by Alzheimer's.
As we continue to make great strides toward supporting and empowering the more than 6 million Americans living with Alzheimer's and their over 11 million caregivers, I want to share some of the highlights from last year that our amazing and committed community of supporters has made possible:
| We provided care and support more than 7.1 million times through channels including alz.org, care consultations, support groups, education programs and information. | | The Association once again made its largest-ever total annual research commitment: $90 million, including more than $71 million in grants for new scientific investigations. As the world's leading nonprofit funder of Alzheimer's and dementia research, the Association is currently investing over $310 million in more than 950 active best-of-field projects in 48 countries. | | Working with bipartisan congressional champions, tireless advocates drove a $226 million increase for Alzheimer's and dementia research funding at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) — bringing the annual total to more than $3.7 billion. | | The ongoing efforts of the Association and the Alzheimer's Impact Movement (AIM), our separately incorporated advocacy affiliate, resulted in the introduction of the Alzheimer's Accountability and Investment Act. This legislation ensures that Congress hears directly from scientists on what resources they need to prevent and effectively treat Alzheimer's disease. | I'm grateful you've joined our community and our fight against this disease that steals so many loved ones. Your support is so very appreciated.
I am hopeful and confident that, when you join our fight, we can make extraordinary progress in the fight against Alzheimer's and have a greater-than-ever impact on those who are affected by this devastating disease.
The number of people living with Alzheimer's — an estimated 50 million worldwide — is expected to triple to 152 million by 2050. Without effective treatments and support, this will create an overwhelming strain for health care systems and on families.
There is more work to be done, and until there is a cure, we will continue pursuing our mission to lead the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.
The generous support of friends like you has helped provide access to care and support services to so many families — in your community and across the country — while also accelerating critical research toward methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure. Together, we will make 2023 an amazing year. Thank you so much for your dedication to our vision of a world without Alzheimer's and all other dementia.
With gratitude, Liz Adams Chief Development Officer P.S. During the past year, we made tremendous advances in our fight against Alzheimer's and all other dementia. I can't thank you enough for being a member of our community. Please consider making your first gift to help provide needed care and support and advance critical research throughout 2023 and beyond.
