Gamakatsu pro Kyle Welcher has been crowned the 2024 National Professional Fishing League (NPFL) Angler of the Year. In a highly competitive season, Welcher outperformed a talented field across six events, narrowly securing the title over fellow Gamakatsu pro Drew Cook. Known for his winter fishing skills, Welcher applied his experience from local Alabama tournaments to adapt successfully at Lake Murray. Initially targeting shallow waters, he quickly shifted his strategy on Day One to focus on suspended fish with forward-facing sonar, demonstrating his versatility. This strategic adjustment helped him achieve a solid fourth-place finish and ultimately clinched his first NPFL Angler of the Year title. Throughout the season, Welcher relied on a variety of Gamakatsu products, utilizing both finesse and power fishing techniques to dominate on the water. “It’s an amazing feeling to win AOY – it’s such a relief,” Welcher said. “I’ve been in the mix all season, but it always felt like I was chasing. This title means more to me than any single tournament win.” said Welcher. Ted Thibault, Sales Manager at Gamakatsu, added, "Winning Angler of the Year is the ultimate test for any angler, and Kyle’s success this season is a testament to his dedication and constant pursuit of excellence. We are incredibly proud that Gamakatsu products played a role in his journey to secure this prestigious NPFL title." |
