What to know: At least three were killed at the country's largest airport, which was hit as the World Health Organization leader, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, was about to board a flight.
The latest: United Nations chief António Guterres called on Israel's government and militants in Yemen to cease their military actions and use restraint.

Authorities are investigating the cause of a deadly Azerbaijan Airlines crash.

On Wednesday: A plane crashed in Kazakhstan, killing at least 38 people. Some reported Azerbaijan's preliminary findings were that Russian air defenses caused the crash.
In other world news: Finnish authorities seized an oil tanker as part of an investigation into the cutting of an undersea cable connecting Finland and Estonia, they said yesterday.

The forecast: An atmospheric river will bring downpours, heavy mountain snow and strong winds to the Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West through the weekend.
It could be dangerous: Weather advisories and warnings cover nine states. The storms already caused considerable damage in Santa Cruz, Calif., on Monday.

It was a stronger-than-expected holiday season for retail.

The numbers: Between Nov. 1 and Dec. 24, U.S. retail sales rose 3.8% compared with the same period last year, Mastercard said. Online shopping drove the increase, rising 6.7%.

What happened? The teenager died Saturday after falling out of a moving vehicle in Alabama, officials said. The teen's family described him as "a vibrant and dynamic person."

A "stressed" Amazon driver ditched 80 packages in the woods, police said.

What to know: A police officer in southeastern Massachusetts discovered the parcels early Sunday. An overwhelmed delivery driver later visited the police station to own up.
A happy ending: The packages still made it to their destinations on time before Christmas. As for the driver, police said that was an Amazon human resources matter, not a criminal one.
