Here's what might be on the menu if you're celebrating instead of working. Now let's catch up on the news. Donald Trump's top border adviser said the U.S. will bring back family detention. What that means: Holding migrant parents with children crossing the U.S.-Mexico border at immigration detention centers. President Joe Biden ended family detention in 2021. What's new? Immigration officials will look to use "soft-sided" tent structures for these families, Tom Homan, Trump's incoming "border czar," told The Post. Read this story       Five journalists were killed in Gaza, a Palestinian TV channel said. What we know: The Al Quds Today journalists were in a broadcast van during an overnight Israeli strike, the station said. Israel said it hit a vehicle with a "terrorist cell." Zooming out: More than 140 journalists have been killed since the war in Gaza started, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. In Syria: Christians attended church on Christmas, but some fear for their future. Read this story       King Charles III gave his annual Christmas address at a former hospital chapel. Why? To highlight the efforts of health-care workers. The unusual location felt personal, considering the medical challenges faced by the king and the royal family. What else to know: Charles was diagnosed with cancer in February and is still receiving treatment. The monarch's annual Christmas message is watched by millions in Britain. Read this story       Trump's return-to-office mandate is expected to meet resistance. What's happening? The president-elect wants much of the 2.3 million-person federal workforce back at their desks. Otherwise, "they're going to be dismissed," he said last week. Zooming out: Remote work became widespread during the pandemic. A record number of federal jobs are now remote. And union contracts could stymie Trump's push. It's not everyone: Some companies are sticking with remote and hybrid work — and finding ways to innovate and succeed. What else to know: Born in Tokyo, Taniguchi studied architecture at Harvard. His company said he died Dec. 16 of pneumonia. He was 87. Read this story       The Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens asserted themselves on Christmas Day. What happened: The Chiefs clinched the AFC's top seed. The Ravens moved into first place in the AFC North. And Beyoncé made a big bang at halftime in Houston. What it means: Kansas City (15-1) is that much closer to becoming the first NFL team to win three straight Super Bowls. It secured home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Today: The Seattle Seahawks — battling to stay in the playoff picture — face the Bears in Chicago (8:15 p.m., Amazon Prime). Read this story       ADVERTISEMENT   Scientists found a cute, furry solution to an invasive crab problem. Sea otters are eating thousands of invasive green crabs at Elkhorn Slough, a reserve in Monterey County, California. (Michael Yang) The issue: Green crabs have wreaked havoc across the West Coast since the late 1980s. They damage sea grass beds and cost states millions. A double success story: Sea otters, once thought extinct, have rebounded along the coast.
