Hall of Famer Bob Feller hospitalized

CLEVELAND (UPI) -- Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Feller, who is battling leukemia, has been hospitalized with pneumonia, the Cleveland Indians said Monday.

Feller, 92, has been receiving treatment at the Cleveland Clinic, Indians spokesman Bob DiBiasio told MLB.com.

DiBiasio said the former Indians great is getting stronger after coming down with a case of thrush -- an infection affecting the mucus membrane lining of the mouth and tongue.

Feller was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in August, when he received two quarts of blood and began receiving chemotherapy treatments. He later had a pacemaker installed to treat a heart ailment.

Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1962, Feller pitched 18 seasons for the Indians, going 266-162 while setting the team record for victories. He was an eight-time all-star.

Hockey

NHL: Anaheim 2, Los Angeles 0

ANAHEIM, Calif. (UPI) -- Cam Fowler and Jason Blake scored and Jonas Hiller got his first shutout of the season Monday in the Anaheim Ducks' 2-0 win over Los Angeles.

Fowler's power-play goal midway through the second period put the Ducks ahead 1-0. It stayed that way until 2:24 was left in the game, when Blake got a feed from Teemu Selanne off a Kings turnover and beat Jonathan Quick with a high shot.

Hiller made a big save on Anze Kopitar less than a minute before Blake's goal, maintaining Anaheim's slim lead. The Ducks' netminder turned aside all 27 shots he saw in notching his seventh career whitewash.

Quick took the hard-luck loss, stopping 17-of-19 shots for Los Angeles, which lost its fourth straight and seventh in eight games.
