The Playbook

Pig Out: Barleyswine
2024 S Lamar Blvd; South Austin; 512.394.8150
The brick and mortar reclaimed-barnwood project from the esteemed chef behind Odd Duck, Barley's a cozy, four-table spot serving whole-hog dishes like crispy pig tails w/ pickles and stuffed-then-fried pig's foot (w/ soft boiled egg, mushrooms, mustard vinaigrette), plus creative takes on foie gras and Wagyu, all paired with eight drafts (North Coast Brother Thelonious, Independence Convict Hill Stout...) and bottles like Allagash White 6 and Old Chubb from Oskar Blues -- if you don't understand why Oskar's got 'em, wait until your Chubb is old.
Let their menu do the talking at Barleyswine.com

Nerd Out: The Return of Star Trekkin'
Written by a regular contributor to Alamo's Badass Digest film blog, Trekkin' started out providing ridiculously in-depth daily commentary on Star Trek episodes, then went dormant for over a year, but was just revived with a 4000 word analysis of "Court Martial", which sees Kirk accused of killing a crew member, resulting in a trial "that cougar Areel Shaw" sums up as "It'll be Kirk vs Computer, and you know you can't judo chop a computer." Though in Kirk's defense, he couldn't really judo chop a crew member either.
That episode was written by the son of the guy who wrote Citizen Kane! Get loads of uselessly awesome knowledge at BadassDigest.com.

Drink: Bar Congress
200 Congress Ave; Downtown; 512.827.2755
With atmosphere provided by a white marble bar top, magenta booths, and grainy dark wood tables, this cocktail-aficionado counterpart to Second Kitchen serves a rotating selection of sips handcrafted by East Side Showroom and The Good Knight transplants. Behold the Tam Tam Swizzle (Crema de Mezcal, Batavia Arrack, tamarind gastrique, lime seltzer), Preferred Lies (Earl Grey-infused bourbon, apple drinking vinegar, Canton ginger foam), and a Cocchi Americano/ Benedictine/ rose water Pastis cocktail called Rowe's Anthem, possibly in honor of Mike Rowe famously singing the National Anthem before an Orioles AA squad game -- the Dirty Job being actually called up to Baltimore.
They're also sporting Fighting Words with True Blue corn whiskey, yellow Chartreuse, Maraschino, and lemon. Check a sample drink list here.

Time To Save: Meister Watches @ JackThreads
Our cos-bro-nauts at JT're slinging two of the urban timewear concern's most popular handmade models: the stainless steel, composite-strapped Prodigy, and the rubber-banded, square-faced Chief, hopefully not named after Robert Parish, because if he could tell time he would have retired 5 years earlier.
Kick off the new year with loads of discounted gear from JackThreads.com
