Transform cardboard containers into snack organizers

Make your own snack organizers

In my quest to render my job as "food hander-outer" obsolete, I'm making the kids' snacks more self-serve. To that end, I've put together a snack box that sits in the cupboard and is reachable by everyone. For a while, I was portioning everything into little single-serving cups, which works well for bulk and homemade items. But some snacks (cereal bars, fruit leather) already come packaged. All I have to do with those is to keep them neat.

Make your own snack organizers (detail)

Inspired by the design of the fruit leather box, I cut other cardboard containers into little snack organizers which keep the cereal bars and packages of popcorn neatly upright and separate. Not only can the kids see what snacks are available without digging, on grocery day, I can see what I need to replace.

Relevant tangent: Certain favorite snacks -- I'm talking about the ones that get eaten or packed in the lunchbox most every day -- arrive at my door courtesy of Amazon Subscribe & Save. In this case, it's the box of fruit leather. Cheaper than buying each item individually and I don't have to think about it.

Who else has a snack organization hack?
