Israel wants bishop out of country

JERUSALEM (UPI) -- The U.S.-educated Anglican bishop of Jerusalem has sued the Israeli government because it denied him and his family a residency visa for the city.

The Right Reverend Suheil Dawani, his wife and daughter have been ordered to leave Israel immediately, but so far the order has not been enforced, The Guardian reported.

Tutu inspires flock in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) -- Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa has a message of hope and transformation for Americans in his current visit to California.

"We are all agents of transfiguration," he told a congregation of 1,000 at Episcopal Grace Cathedral in San Francisco Sunday. "Go forth and transform your personal relationships, your community, your world, so it becomes hospitable to joy, to justice, to freedom, to peace."

Ensign not seeking re-election

LAS VEGAS (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., announced in Las Vegas Monday he will not see a third term in 2012.

Ensign is facing a Senate Ethics Committee investigation stemming from an affair with Cynthia Hampton, a former aide's wife in 2009, The aide, Doug Hampton, said Ensign helped him find work as a lobbyist and Ensign's parents gave the Hamptons nearly $100,000, KLAS-TV, Las Vegas, reported.

Abuse probe of Philly cardinal widens

PITTSBURGH (UPI) -- Pittsburgh authorities are investigating the history of Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua, implicated in many coverups of clerical sex abuse in Philadelphia.

Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr. told The Philadelphia Inquirer Friday his office is reviewing all abuse cases reported during Bevilacqua's 1983-88 tenure as bishop of Pittsburgh in light of the Philadelphia grand jury's latest findings.
