The world’s just been getting more and more digital. Now is the time when everyone without a smart device is missing out on a lot of the world’s possibilities for interaction, and consumer electronics have seen a surge in sales. We’re now seeing these “smart” CE devices coming out of the woodwork and enhancing everyone’s household.
Even washing machines are starting to interact with people’s smartphones. NPD’s In-Stat (News - Alert) research report estimates that smart CE device sales will not slow down, putting the figure of smart CE device shipments at above 92 million by 2016.
Norm Bogen, VP of Research, said, “CE vendors fundamentally agree that, increasingly, consumers are becoming technically savvy, and as a result are fully capable of using devices that are far more advanced than say, the traditional pay-TV STB. In fact, they are not only capable of using smart devices, but consumers are eager to own smart devices that will afford them more freedom to access content outside the walled gardens of the pay-TV service providers, including content that is now widely available on the Web...
