The Pacific Coast Grill
Is in danger of falling in
2526 Hwy 101; Cardiff; 760.479.0721
The crew behind the Belly Up's apparently kept well enough afloat to build out the beachside sweetness that is The Pacific Coast Grill (after moving out of their old Solana Beach location to make room for Crush).
A far more beautiful rebirth of Charlie's (as well as far more beautiful than any actual birth), the beachy-rustic space is covered with cobblestones and aged wood all over, and boasts a mosaic'd private dining room with a beautiful ocean view from a separate balcony, which they've dubbed the "Message in a Bottle" room, though that won't ease the Sting from you not being able to afford it. Besides the views of the water/that sweet maroon Jeep, you need to go here for the:
Lobster Tacos: About a third of the menu's making a comeback at the new location, including these crowd-favorite, build-your-own-huge-lobster-hunk tacos.
Sesame-Crusted Seared Ahi: That's a ginger-ponzu butter sauce, beech mushrooms, and coconut "forbidden rice" -- coincidentally, Sarah Palin's nickname for Glen when they vacation in the tropics.
Coconut Crab-Crusted Mahi Mahi: Like a boss, it sits atop vanilla jasmine rice and bok choy, all floating in a bath of a delightfully rich, apple cider soy butter.
The Bar, Obvi: "Cool Cocktails" (TM!?) include the Seaside Bloody Tini, and a whopping six specialty margs ranging from Blood Orange to the Jose Millionaire w/ 150yr-old Grand Marnier, plus six drafts, and 130+ wines -- enough bottles to ensure that even if your message does wash up somewhere, no one will be able to understand it.
