Human Development Report 2014 - Sustaining Human Progress: Reducing Vulnerabilities and Building Resilience

The 2014 Report focuses on those that are at greatest risk and on key underlying drivers of vulnerability. Indigenous peoples constitute around 5% of the world's population but account for 15% of the world's poor. The 2014 Report takes the view that vulnerability threatens human development and, unless it is systematically addressed, progress will be neither equitable nor sustainable.

The challenge of unequal opportunities is part of the series of publications that the United Nations Program for Development in Mexico has developed to promote human development approaches in the design, development and implementation of public policies.

Guatemala - National Human Development Report 2005 "Ethnic and Cultural Diversity: Citizenship in a plural state"

The Reports underlines that it is possible to break the vicious association between ethnic diversity and inequality and create a virtuous circle of human development that benefits all. Positive changes have taken place in Guatemala during the last decade in closing the interethnic gaps.

23 September I Climate Summit 2014 #Climate

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has invited world leaders, from government, finance, business, and civil society to Climate Summit 2014 to galvanize and catalyze climate action.  This Summit is a unique opportunity for leaders to champion an ambitious vision, anchored in action that will enable a meaningful global agreement in 2015.

From our library:

Climate change is the defining human development challenge of the 21st Century. Failure to respond to that challenge will stall and then reverse international efforts to reduce poverty. Looking to the future, no country will be immune to the impact of global warming.
China -National Human Development Report 2014 "Sustainable and Liveable Cities: Toward Ecological Civilization"

The report explores the current urban transformation in China from the perspective of human development and primarily considers its impacts on the people of China.
Mongolia - National Human Development Report 2011 "From Vulnerability to Sustainability: Environment and Human Development"

Mongolia is at the biting edge of the tension between economic growth and environmental conservation. The concept of human development can help in connecting economic growth processes with environmental conservation priorities.
