The Final Countdown

So close yet so far

The Final Countdown
All week we've been tallying up problems Donald Trump should be more concerned about affecting his poll numbers than an allegedly "RIGGED" election. And all week Trump has continued to blame the "Rigged system!" From launching his campaign calling Mexicans rapists and criminals, to bragging about sexual assault, to a tax plan that would give the top 1 percent 46 percent of the benefits, coming up with 99 problems wasn't hard. And, unlike the Trump campaign, we didn't have to make one up. Here are the final additions to our #99problems:
WHAT'S TRENDING
#99problems. While we're on the subject… Jay Z is giving a GOTV concert in Cleveland tonight. And rumor has it BeyoncĂ© is going to be there too. And maybe LeBron.
Jobs. The economy added 161,000 jobs in October, continuing the 70+ month streak of job growth and dropping the unemployment rate to 4.9 percent. And earnings were up an especially healthy 2.8 percent over the year. According to CAP economist Michael Madowitz, "A labor market that continues to defy expert predictions and add jobs without producing inflation is probably the most important economic story of 2016, and one the media should cover more." Aka, we should be celebrating that President Obama took the economy from high unemployment in the heart of the recession to today's low unemployment and broad-based wage growth. #ThanksObama.
Solutions. We get it. This election hasn't been about policy issues. But that doesn't mean voters don't care about them. New CAP Action polling finds that voters in six battleground states—Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—strongly support commonsense gun safety legislation. Voters in all six states overwhelmingly supported expanding background checks on gun purchases, barring those convicted of a hate crime from buying a gun, and prohibiting those convicted of stalking or domestic abuse from buying guns.
The Eiffel Tower. Keep an eye out, because it'll be turning green tonight in honor of the Paris Agreement, which goes into effect today. Tonight may be for celebrating the landmark climate deal, but a lot of hard work still lies ahead in order to reach the deal's goals of greenhouse gas emissions. And Trump announced this week that he'd try to cancel the agreement, so there's that.
