Arctic air lingers all week, with Kansas City possibly hitting negative teens Tuesday and sub-zero wind chills expected in D.C. for Jimmy Carter's funeral Thursday. 🕊️ The nation begins its farewell to Jimmy Carter, who died at 100 on Dec. 29. His body was moved to Atlanta Saturday and will travel to D.C. Tuesday for a Capitol service and Wednesday lying in state. A state funeral at Washington National Cathedral follows Thursday, with President Biden delivering a eulogy. Carter will then return to Plains, Georgia, for a private burial. 🏛️ Mike Johnson was reelected House Speaker Friday with help from President-elect Donald Trump. At a GOP retreat Saturday, Johnson said Trump wants Congress to pass a sweeping budget bill of his priorities, calling it "one big, beautiful bill." 🏢 President Joe Biden signed the Social Security Fairness Act into law Sunday afternoon, marking what is expected to be one of the last major pieces of legislation of his presidency. 🚨 The suspect in the deadly New Year's Day truck-ramming attack in New Orleans made two previous trips to the city in October and November, apparently scouting the best location to carry out his rampage, even using a pair of Meta smart glasses to record video of a bicycle ride through the French Quarter, the FBI said. 💔 Film director and screenwriter Jeff Baena, husband of actress Aubrey Plaza, has died by suicide at age 47, the county medical examiner confirmed Saturday. 🏆 The 2025 Golden Globes kicked off awards season Sunday night, honoring the best in film and television.
