On the long, long list of my least favorite activities, job hunting falls somewhere before shopping for a bathing suit and doing my taxes. Fortunately, I haven't had to look for work as often as I've had to do either of those two activities. When I have, though, it feels dire.

Maybe because of the tremendous amount of pressure job seekers feel, it's easy to make mistakes. For example, a job hunting friend of mine called me the other day to say that after mailing out 30 resumes, she discovered a typo toward the very top of the page. The job she was inquiring about? Editor, of course.

The worst part of job hunting, in my opinion, is writing the cover letter. Skipping it is a no-no, however.

My all-time favorite job search gaffe though comes to us courtesy of my friend Emma, who once went to an interview in a tank top and denim skirt. "What? It was hot out," she said, when I mentioned maybe she might want to think about another outfit. She didn't get the job.
