Technical Hiatus

There was a brief hiatus over the last month due to some technical post issues, but I believe these have been resolved. Regular posting resumes now.

One Million Pageviews

This site has just recently surpassed one million (1,000,000) page views. That might even be on the small estimate side as I'm not sure the tracker goes back to 2006 or whenever I first fired this up.

62,500 Posts

Today this blog hit 62,500 posts. Interesting.

New Template

As of today, I've completely revamped the template here at the Ignoble Experiment. I've also updated the description at the top to be a little more helpful. The copyright section at the bottom also got updated. Let's see how effective this is.

Current stats show that this blog has 61,625 posts with an estimated 382,570 page views. And the hits just keep on rolling.

40,000 Posts

Despite some temporary delays, this magical mystery machine of a site has reached over 40,000 posts. So that's big. There is nothing else to report at this time.

Temporary Delays

It would appear that about 10 days ago, the email forwarding that makes this blog possible quit for some unknown reason. I found the problem and fixed it today, but I'm not sure how to prevent it from happening again. At any rate, your regularly scheduled nonsense will now continue.

We've reached 30,000 posts! I don't even know if I could turn this monster off at this point.

As of this moment, I've reached 25,536 posts on this blog. I'm realizing this could go on for a very very long time.

Update (2008-09-10): 2793 posts as of today. I've decided not to really post about the count until we hit 3000, which should possibly be any day now!

2000 Posts Surpassed!

Time for a huge milestone.

I now have about 2051 posts here and they are coming faster and faster. Since the 1900^th post, I've received one more request to remove content, which I immediately acted upon. But it has not been the flood of complaints that I expected. On the one hand, any links here will mean inbound links to the sites that publish these newsletters. On the other hand, they wrote the content for these newsletters and may or may not feel it is to their best interest.

I'm so conflicted about letting this continue that it keeps me up a bit at night sometimes. I'll mention this again for possibly the last time. If anyone objects to the content here, just let me know. Please leave a comment and I will respond or remove as needed. Thanks!

1900 Posts And Counting

Well, besides having my first real complaint / comment, this site is just rolling along. We have gone from 1800 posts to 1900 in just over 1 week. For clarity, I'm not "scraping" content here on this site. What I've done is not technically against any terms of service published by any entity that I can find. You can find instructions on how to duplicate this experiment here. I still have qualms about this site, but despite the current dilemma I'm going to let it run for an undetermined continuous period.

If anyone objects to the content here, I've already deleted one set of posts at one visitor's request. And I replied to them via email with an apology. Please leave a comment and I will respond or remove as needed. Thanks!

FIRST COMMENT!

I got my first comment! Well technically, I had a pair of spam links a few days back, but I finally got someone's attention by subscribing to email newsletters and then republishing them. The owner of GeeksAreSexy.net posted a comment asking me to stop the practice for a variety of reasons. I'd link to the comment, but the original post has been deleted by me. The commenter was not overly nice which I expected, but they were dead spot on and they have my sincere apology.

So besides this post referencing them, I've removed every other reference to their site. I stated multiple times that I'd remove content if someone complained and here is the first! This only magnifies my trepidation about continuing. You may see the site shut down or deleted someday soon.

1800 Posts And Counting

Let me just lay the results out there. One hundred posts in less than a week! This is ridiculous. Total posts once this entry is saved will be exactly 1800, up from 1700.

1700 Posts And Counting

These are getting too fast for me to keep up. I went on a short hiatus from the Internet and I've returned today to find that there are now over 1700 posts! About eight days ago, the total was 1600 posts and they are continuing to expand rapidly. June's total entries was 185. So far, July is already up to 223. Number of visits has cooled and continues to drop slowly with 53 visits about a week ago and now less than 20 or so. The record of 60 on July 11^th still stands. The most popular post so far is CNET Download Dispatch: Social cyber-fly.

1600 Posts And Counting

In META news about this site, there are now over 1600 posts, up from 1500 posts less than two weeks ago. In other news, the site has started getting traffic. And I mean, there were a few blips on individual days; 5 visitors here, 3 visitors here, 12 visitors there. Then suddenly, there were 28! Then 16 (a minor dip), then 36 (wow) and then yesterday there were 60! This was definitely an oh-em-gee moment for me. Again, there's the feeling of accomplishment, but then paired with this is the feeling of trepidation on whether or not I should really be doing this. Hence, the name "Ignoble". Anyway, this is still experimental and I just want to see how long and how far it can go on.

1500 Posts And Counting

There are now over 1500 posts, up from 1400 just about 20 days ago. I think there have been a few of the newsletters that have been unsubscribed automatically, most likely by spiders or bots hitting the unsubscribe links. I thought for about 10 seconds about how to prevent that, but realized that I can't waste time on it.
