LONDON (UPI) -- Prince William and Kate Middleton were married Friday in a subdued ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London, becoming the duke and duchess of Cambridge.

Obama assesses Ala. tornado damage

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (UPI) -- President Barack Obama Friday drove through the streets of Tuscaloosa, Ala., where a tornado this week killed dozens of people and caused widespread damage.

Air Force One landed 10:45 a.m., with Gov. Robert Bentley, Sens. Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions, Rep. Ike Sewell and Mayors William Bell of Birmingham and Walt Maddox of Tuscaloosa on hand.

San Francisco could vote on circumcision

SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) -- A San Francisco man wants the city to hold a referendum on banning male circumcision.

Lloyd Schofield and his allies say they have collected 12,000 signatures to get the "Prohibition of Genital Cutting of Male Minors" initiative on the ballot in November, ABC News reported Wednesday. Doctors or mohels, the Jewish practitioners of ritual circumcision, could be jailed or fined if they circumcise anyone under age 18.

John Paul II's coffin moved from crypt

VATICAN CITY (UPI) -- Final preparations for the beatification ceremony for Pope John Paul II continued Friday at the Vatican.

The pope's coffin was taken out of a crypt under St. Peter's Basilica, the BBC reported. The wooden coffin and a vial of John Paul's blood will be displayed before the high altar in St. Peter's during the beatification Sunday.
