CBO report traces deficit back to 2001

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- Tax cuts, wars, recessions and spending are the primary culprits in the current U.S. budget deficit mess, analyses of Congressional Budget Office data show.

Al Gore book comes out on Apple app

SAN JOSE, Calif. (UPI) -- Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore says his new book will be the first to be built specifically for Apple's Push Pop Press digital platform.

The book, "Our Choice," will be available as a traditional paper-page book, but Macworld said Sunday it will also be released in the form of an iOS application.

Macworld said Push Pop Press offers a "deeper and more polished" look at the interactive applications currently available for use on Apple iPads.

Gas prices up; cuts to monitor agency loom

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- U.S. gas prices ticked higher again in the past week, rising to a nationwide average of $3.943 per gallon for regular unleaded, AAA said Sunday.

The association's Daily Gas Gauge Report was up from $3.860 a gallon on Easter Sunday and well above $2.885 a year ago.

Diesel was up slightly at $4.153 per gallon.

Buffett says he erred in Lubrizol deal

OMAHA (UPI) -- Warren Buffett told shareholders in Omaha his former top aide was out of line when he pushed the purchase of stock in chemical producer Lubrizol Corp.

Speaking Saturday at the annual meeting of Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett said he should have pressed David Sokol for more information about the investment and Sokol's personal holdings in the company's stock.
