Haggis Time: Burnside Brewing Co.'s New Menu

The new dude in the kitchen for the LoBu brew barons dedicated his fresh menu to "food from any country that drinks beer" (take THAT, Iran). What it means for you: stuff like tangy housemade haggis built from the brewery's spent grain, pork schnitzel coated in rye/caraway breadcrumbs & topped w/ a fried-then-baked egg, and soon, a red velvet cake "Twinkie", which'll be the only thing that survives if Iran reads that beer joke up top.

Get Ready: Acadia's New Absinthe Program

The 'Nawlins-inspired NE eatery is making the French Quarter look conservative by dropping a program with 11, fairy-inducing, thujone'd-up absinthes from 'round the world. Seek out Portland's own Trillium, Swiss Kübler, or Vieux Pontarlier from France, any of which can find their way into cocktails like the Cointreau/gin Corpse Reviver #2 (the #1 was already standing up).

PDX-developed iPhone app Gliph has one overwhelmingly necessary feature: it lets you communicate with strangers you still need to talk to (i.e., weirdos on Craigslist that just happen to have the vintage Hungry Hungry Hippos game you so desperately need) without revealing your email/screen name/phone number.
