Yo!
How's your week going?
Today I will say a few
words on the diminished chord...
or should I say the diminished
arpeggio.
ahhh... What a creepy (yet cool) sound.
So, for you theory noobs (no offense lol),
a diminished chord is built from stacked MINOR THIRDS.
That's 3 frets apart. There's a lot
of cool things we can discover here.
For example:
1. There's only 3 possible diminished
chords (because they keep repeating).
2. Within the diminished chord is a tritone
interval, when you add 2 minor thirds
together. This is part of what gives it
that creepy sound.
Also interesting is that diminished connotes
"small"...but your playing is anything but
small when you use this sophisticated sound.
Like any tonality, there's a billion ideas
and licks.
