This last weekend I was at the IndyCar race in Sonoma to see Verizon and Qualcomm showcase LTE Broadcast-I also wanted to see the race. I've watched NASCAR and F1 racing, and IndyCar is kind of a weird hybrid. The cars are heavier versions of F1 cars that mostly run on an oval track, except in Sonoma they were on a more F1-like road course. This may be yet another technology that was once only possible through specialized devices eventually becoming another built-in function of a smartphone. Word is that Amazon is scaling way back on its consumer devices efforts, having let go of dozens of Lab126 engineers who worked on its Fire phone, according to various reports. Amazon also is reportedly scaling back or stopping work on a large-screen tablet and reorganizing the group at the Silicon Valley hardware development center. The hype around 4K Ultra HD video is growing and we're seeing it gain traction in real ways. From the NFL Network and CBS using 4K cameras to capture sideline footage for sharper enlarged replays, to Sony's sensors that have the capability to bring 4K video to its point-and-shoot cameras, this new video resolution is making its mark. In December 2015, when Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits movie theatres across the U.S., a very different type of force will 'awaken' the mobile wallet. This force will be a mixture of frustration, boredom and exasperation. It will be caused by new payment processing rules laid down by Europay, MasterCard and Visa-better known as EMV.
