People Parked Cars in Front of This Man's Garage. He Used a Forklift to Put Them on the Roof. Posted: 29 Feb 2016 04:00 AM PST (Photo: People's Daily Online) The People's Daily Online reports that a garage owner in Qingdao, Shandong, China got tired of people illegally parking their cars in front of their garage. So he got a forklift, picked up two cars, then placed them on the roof of the garage. The Daily Mail reports: According to reports, the owners of the two cars in question were unable to get their vehicles off the roof. This is because both the police and the garage's owner said they were not able to get involved as it was a 'private matter'. In order to get their vehicles back, the cars' owners reportedly had to hire a forklift themselves to bring their vehicles down. -via American Digest

Homemade Zamboni Posted: 29 Feb 2016 03:00 AM PST When you’ve got enough energy and creativity to build a personal ice rink in your backyard, it only makes sense that you would figure out how to groom it with your own homemade Zamboni! All you need is a tricycle, a bucket, and a towel. (YouTube link) Jaxen explains how it works, and then polishes the entire rink himself. The only difficulty I see is driving a tricycle on ice (hence the helmet). But I don’t think they made snow tires for tricycles. Someone in the comments said, Tried it with my bike.. Disney's New Solar Farm Looks Like Mickey Mouse Posted: 29 Feb 2016 02:00 AM PST (Photo: Near Map) There are many hidden images of Mickey Mouse throughout Disney World. But you'll only see this one from the air. Disney World recently completed its largest hidden Mickey. It's a 11.5-acre arrangement of solar panels. Disney worked with Duke Energy to develop the facility. It produces 5 megawatts, which is as much electricity as might come from 1,000 home rooftop solar energy systems. Photographer Shoots Vintage-Look Celebrity Portraits Using Polaroid Camera Posted: 29 Feb 2016 01:00 AM PST Chloe Sevigny Photographer Jay Clendenin, regularly tasked with photographing celebrities at film festivals and cons, was looking for a method of shooting that would make his celebrity portraits stand out. He found it using a Polaroid Land Camera 180 with Fuji FP-100c film. That equipment in combination with a background painted especially for the project and a rustic, 100-year-old farmer's table equals a decidedly old-fashioned charm in Clendenin's portraits. The unique look has been popular with his celebrity subjects as well.  Among the things Clendenin llkes about the setup is that it necessitates that he and his subject slow down their fast pace and contemplate the look and feel they want. He said in Petapixel, “It has a calming effect, as much for the subjects as it does for me. It gives everyone a chance to take a breath, slow down and to collaborate on making one or two frames that hopefully stand apart.” Clendenin continues, “I’ve always maintained that successful portraits are dependent on collaboration and having this ‘film’ on hand has helped me create an extra set of pictures that I’m really proud of.” To see more of these "retro-innovative" celebrity portraits by Clendenin, visit his website, Instagram and Twitter accounts. When Your Hometown Becomes a TV Show Set Posted: 28 Feb 2016 04:00 PM PST In 2010, the small town of Senoia, Georgia, welcomed a television production into their town, not knowing if the proposed show would ever be aired or how long it would last. The show was indeed a hit, and life changed considerably for the people who live in the set of The Walking Dead. An anonymous resident of Senoia talked to Cracked about how the zombie apocalypse series has affected the town and its people. One of the drawbacks of filming in a real town is that real people really live there. The Alexandria Safe-Zone, which brings a whole new meaning to the term "gated community," is a real subdivision called the Gin Property, whose residents have had to live with certain new conditions. "They had to agree to things like specific exit/entry times at their own homes to work around filming, and allowing bright lights and loud noises at three in the morning," Brittany says. "I believe they are legally obligated to wait until the crew okays their leaving so that they don't mess up a scene." That's right: When filming is in progress, there might as well be real zombies outside, because you're not leaving your house. God forbid you get stuck in traffic or have to work overtime and get home after filming has started -- you're camping out. That’s just (part of) one thing. Helen Ahpornsiri's Gold Fern Mosaics Posted: 28 Feb 2016 02:00 PM PST Helen Ahpornsiri is an artist in East Sussex, UK. She makes beautiful mosaics of animals by pressing fern leaves flat, then cutting and arranging them into different shapes and colors. For many of her pieces, she adds gold to the leaves, creating a a vibrant luster that make her creatures look enchanted. This time-lapse video shows her creative process. Many of Afpornsiri's images are tiny. She can depict her subjects precisely, even at such a small scale. DiCaprio and Director Open Up About <i>The Revenant’s</i> Brutal Shoot Posted: 28 Feb 2016 12:00 PM PST If you've seen The Revenant, you know that this dramatic film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Alejandro G. Inarritu is a gritty and harrowing ride that challenges the average moviegoer's endurance as well as the main character's. The film is nominated for multiple Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio, which if won would be his first. While those scores won't be settled until tonight's awards ceremony, some tales of The Revenant's incredibly challenging shoot can be shared in the words of DiCaprio, director Inarritu and some of their crew. Here are some snippets from the article linked below: The actors entered into a real-life frozen jungle during a seven-month shoot in Alberta, Canada, using natural light (shot by cinematographer Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki) and fending off frostbite in temperatures that plunged to 40 degrees below zero. If that wasn’t grueling enough, a lack of snow near the end of the shoot forced the production to shut down last spring, and add six days in July — mid-winter — in Argentina, which tacked millions to the already inflated budget, while Inarritu had to cobble together an edit without an ending. The cast set up shop overnight in small villages, and would drive — for up to two hours each day — to the uncovered set. “It was bizarre, because we were making a big movie with a small camera team,” says Lubezki, who wore six layers of thermal clothes to keep warm. “We didn’t have normal gear. We didn’t have lights.” The lack of a cellphone signal meant that crew members had to relay messages via snowmobiles. The first few months were plagued by nonstop storms and threats of frostbite. But despite the harsh weather, DiCaprio insists he was never injured. He did, however, get sick repeatedly. “I got the flu quite a few times,” he allows. In one scene, where the other men in his troop carry him up a hill on a stretcher, Glass lets out a guttural cough. That’s not, in fact, acting, but DiCaprio spewing out phlegm. The 2015 Razzies Have a Tie for Worst Picture Posted: 28 Feb 2016 07:00 AM PST The 36th annual Golden Raspberry Awards were bestowed last night, the night before the Oscars, as is the custom every year. The awards recognize the worst movies and actors of the previous year. This year’s Worst Picture trophy ended in a tie between Fifty Shades of Grey and Fantastic 4. Both pictures can claim the title of Worst Picture of 2015. Those two films beat outJupiter Ascending, Paul Blart Mall Cop 2, and Pixels. The other awards went to: Worst Actor: Jamie Dornan for Fifty Shades of Grey Worst Actress: Dakota Johnson for Fifty Shades of Grey Worst Supporting Actress: Kaley Cuoco for two movies, Alvin & The Chipmunks: Road Chip and The Wedding Ringer Worst Supporting Actor: Eddie Redmayne for Jupiter Ascending Worst Director: Josh Trank for Fantastic 4 Worst Screen Combo: Jamie Dornan & Dakota Johnson for Fifty Shades of Grey Worst Screenplay: Fifty Shades of Grey Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel: Fantastic 4 In all, Fifty Shades of Grey won five Razzies while Fantastic 4 took home three awards.
